Thanks for keeping us posted, baseball-fan

I see that your Roku remote does not have a pairing button.

If your voice remote does not have a pairing button, press and hold the Back and Home for 20 seconds to reset it.

This troubleshooting step will enable your Roku remote to be paired again with the device. You can refer to the instructions above to initiate pairing.

    Keep me posted.

    Thanks,
    The Roku Community Team.

Thanks.   this same procedure has only been suggested about 10,000 times and each time there are tons of emails saying “this doesn’t work “so the answer is to repost it again.

The problem is as I’ve said a design flaw that build up dust overtime that makes it stick

My original remote was not working last year and I bought a new one from a local Walmart.  Lately the right arrow would occasionally not work and got worse over time.  Last week I bought another (from Walmart again) and the right arrow started failing on the first evening we used it.  Quality issues?

I'm sorry to learn that the right arrow on your brand new Roku Remote is not responding. Similar to the meticulous troubleshooting required for technology, obtaining a Golden Visa in Dubai demands careful attention to detail. To troubleshoot the remote issue, start by checking the batteries, ensuring they are properly inserted, and have sufficient power. Attempt to re-pair the remote, unplug the Roku device, wait for a few seconds, and then plug it back in before re-establishing the connection. Just as with a Golden Visa application, meticulous attention to each step is crucial. Inspect the remote for any dirt or debris around the buttons, ensuring clarity, much like the precise documentation required for a Golden Visa. If the problem persists, consider contacting Roku support for further assistance, just as applicants for a Golden Visa may seek guidance from relevant authorities for a seamless process. I hope these suggestions help resolve the remote issue promptly and reflect the thoroughness required in various processes, including obtaining a Golden Visa in Dubai.

For some of us just download the Roku app. Consider it a backup. It works for me fine but for many of us, its not the same as having our clicker nearby.

Better than not being able to right click - sounds like a dating app.

Not sure I responded but if your button has got progressively harder to use no amount of "reset", tricks, etc will work.  The issue is gunk buildup on the metal plate with the "clicks".  Take out batteries, wash the board in mild soapy water, rinse and let completely dry.  (My entire board was "gooey"- 99% certain it is the dust buildup from static electricity not handled correctly. )  I never have this trouble with any other remote so it's almost certain a design flaw.  Good Luck - I switched to the tv remote - not nearly as simple but then never the problems I always got with roku.

Not sure I would be able to do that without causing more damage. Would be helpful if Roku just fixed the issue. Thanks for your help, though.

        Hi, daniellesara22

Greetings here in the Roku Community!

Thank you for getting in touch. We want to assure you that we will help you with your issues regarding the right button on your Roku remote. Before we proceed, we would appreciate it if you could provide us with more specific information, such as:

        1. Serial number of the Roku player this remote is paired to.
        2. Is this the remote that came with that device? If not, kindly specify if this is a Voice Remote Pro or Voice Remote Pro (2nd edition).
        3. When and where did you purchase this?

We also suggest, resetting your Roku remote by pressing and holding the Back and Home buttons simultaneously for about 20 seconds

        Thanks,
        Jharra
  • I'm now on my 3rd replacement remote, all have had the same > button fault as described in this thread.  Just like the other two, the latest one lasted just 1.5 months!  ROKU promised to send me 2 replacements and have sent absolutely nothing to me.

I've had to write to them again:

"Where are the replacement remotes I was promised from ROKU?

I have had to buy a 3rd one at the beginning of September 2024.  It's now 27th October 2024 and this one, which again I have paid for, is no longer working.  The > navigation button does not work properly; it's having to be pressed so extremely hard to get it to react.

Also, why have I been lied to by ROKU about replacements being sent?  Where are they and what is the problem?  If it's a Dutch address, then send them to my UK address.  My UK address is:

    XXXXX

    XXXXX

    XXXXX

I have never felt so disappointed and been deliberately lied to by any company I have ever done business with in all my 58 years on this planet.

ROKU, you are an utter disgrace. Your products are not fit for purpose and your CS reps seem to be duplicitous liars.

    Regards

    XXXXXXXX"

Now, where are the replacement remotes I was more than once promised via Private Message?

If this is not resolved I will be reporting ROKU to the UK Trading Standards Authority for the deliberate selling of a product to the public, in this case remote controls, which ROKU is more than aware are defective and not fit for purpose.  The deliberate selling of defective and not fit for purpose products is ILLEGAL under English and Scottish law in the United Kingdom.

After looking around at the post about the buttons sticking.. I was surprised at how MANY people have this issue. I have changed the batteries thinking that was it and still didn't work. It is So madding to have your remote button stick when all you want to do is move the cursor to the right or the left. I think I will spray it with WD40.. Roku community is forced to buy another one. But afraid it will do the same thing.. Really sad

Don't spray it with WD40 - it eats plastic.  You might try contact cleaner or taking it apart and cleaning it with alcohol.

I have a Roku Express 4K+. I don't see any answers fixing this issue.  I bought it a few months back but didn't set it up till recently.  The right arrow has to be pressed so hard to work and still doesn't work well.  That is the main button you need and makes it difficult to watch TV.  I have changed batteries, reset everything and nothing works.  What can I do to fix this issue?

on my Roku ultra the volume button when pushed on two different remotes seems to stick so that the volume goes all the way up or all the way down not step-by-step. Same ultra two separate remotes do the same thing. Model 4800X, serial number X0 1000S8W508. Software version 12.5.0 build 4178 – C2.

Same problem here with 2 new voice control Roku remotes.  I suspect a manufacturing fault.  After buying them from Argos, both started having problems with the right directional arrow after days.  None of the so-called "fixes" work.  One of the remotes has already been launched at high speed against the living room wall out of utter frustration.  What a feeling of satisfaction it gave me watching it smash to pieces.  The second hopeless voice control ROKU remote, still showing right directional arrow non-responsiveness, is living on borrowed time.

These remotes are simply cheap rubbish and quality control seems to play no part in the manufacturing process.  ROKU, a thoroughly inept company when it comes to remote controls and operability,

  • I have the same problem with the right arrow that hundreds of others have wrote about. I have tried every troubleshooting recommendation Roku has given. Please send a new remote! The remote is worthless without that button functioning problem and my right thumb hurts from pressing so hard to get it to work. Not acceptable.

  • My golden rule now is to avoid Roku remotes—they just don’t last.
The right arrow button giving up so fast is super frustrating.
Hope they upgrade the quality before more people face this.

      Hi jackaasewp233

      Thanks for letting us know!

I understand that you’re having trouble with the right arrow button not responding. I’m here to help. Could you share a little more about your device?

      • The model number of the remote.
      • Have you tried some troubleshooting steps to fix the issue?
      • When and where did you purchase the remote? Did it come with the Roku device, or was it sold separately?

For now, I suggest getting the Roku mobile app as an alternative remote for your devices. You can download it using this link for free.

Looking forward to teaming up with you and sorting this out together!
