So I thought it was a fluke but it's been continuously happening for a year now and I have no explanation as to why. If I ever use my phone to take a picture or video of something I'm watching on the tv it will automatically pause or just keep skipping from pause to Play over and over. It's no big deal but was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this. I have a pixel 6 if that means anything
That's weird. Are you running any Roku-related apps on the phone?
Is the flash being used? If so, try without? (Wild guessing that the flash might be flickering in a way that looks like an IR signal.)
I have a pixel 6 and it does the same thing ! This phone is already such a burden, another reason for me to switch lol
Hi @Kiefcoffee,
Thanks for reaching out to the Roku Community.
Have you tried the suggested tip posted by @Strega, to check if the issue still occurs? To isolate the problem you could also try using a different mobile device and see if there's any difference.
Let us know what you find out.

holy **bleep**. just discovered this quirk and tried googling it. I also am on a pixel 6....
Also happening on my pixel 8 pro
Also happening with my Google Pixel 7 Pro & I threw a pair of boxers over the Roku and then I can point my pixel 7 pro at whatever. I'm watching on my Roku and it will not pause automatically so I have a feeling like there is a secret hidden camera that's watching us live 24/7 built within the Roku ultra. Otherwise why would it. Stop every time I point my camera at my Roku and freeze like a pause. But then when I cover the Roku up with my boxers or anything I mean I could pretend it's a dish towel and then it will let me point my camera from my phone at the Roku without it pausing every time every show
Is Roku got surveillance cameras built into their device. Watching their consumers to see our reaction kind of like Nielsen ratings use to do only I didn't consent to Roku Nielsen monitoring & if that is the case, there needs to be opt-out
@Kritt888, there's no camera in Roku devices. Don't start some conspiracy theory. Your phone's camera is probably sending out a signal to judge distance and it's being picked up by the Ultra.
