Roku Voice Remote Pro RC701 Rechargable

Jump to solution

Do not buy this remote.  Stops fully charging after a short time of usage and the usage was not excessive.  My remote only charges 35%.

Support services was not helpful and the only solution was the remote was defective and I should purchase a new one.

I will no longer purchase any Roku products.

If anyone else is having this problem...good luck in getting any assistance.

Hello @Lisan,

Welcome to the Roku Community!

Thank you for reaching out about the remote inquiry. We're here to help.

Here's what you need to know about charging the Roku Voice Remotes:

  • Roku Voice Remote Pro: From empty, a full charge takes 3 hours and typically lasts 2 months. Using Headphone Mode will drain the battery more quickly.
  • Roku Voice Remote Pro (2nd edition): From empty, a full charge takes 5.5 hours and typically lasts 3 months.

To learn more, be sure to visit our support for Getting to know your Roku Voice Remote Pro.

Hope you'll find this info useful. Let us know in case you still have any questions!

My Voice Remote Pro has NEVER charged fully to 100%. The most I will get is 96% and it won't stay there long, within a couple hours it's already in the low 90% and by the next day or so in the 80%. It won't fully charge and it won't stay charged. I don't plug in headphones for private listening and I keep Hands Free Voice turned off, so there is no excuse for this.

The rechargeable batteries inside the remotes are cheap junk, you are better off with the remotes you put batteries in yourself, and even those ones can be battery killers! Pretty much all Roku remotes are trash except the simple IR ones.

My Roku Pro RC917 has never fully charged. It also locks up often with screen freeze and reboots the TV.

I have 5 Roku Ultra units and a Roku TV. So I have lots of experience when Roku does it right. I never have problems when I use my IPhone as a remote. Has anyone had problems that required the base unit replaced? My primary model is 4802X Roku Ultra.

Roku needs remake these remotes with removable batteries and A type C charging port and find out what’s draining and what’s causing the batteries to charge correctly! But my biggest issues are: 1. Roku made these remotes disposable because they cannot be taken apart and have new batteries placed in them. 2. Roku won’t take responsibility that they sold a defective remote and Recall these remotes. (Roku Do Better!)

There are various models of remotes Like differences in internal hardware.
The main model of the pro is RCS01r.  Of that there are sub models And you will know this submodel by looking at the description under remotes on a Roku settings screen

The sub model RC 917 (You can see the number in the remotes sub menu) Has never charged for me up to 100% Unless it is plugged in.  Unplugged it will go to 96 or 97% and discharge fairly rapidly. At About 80% it won’t pair.

RC795, another submodelOf RCS01r Will charge you 100% But has strange button behavior  Hitting the left arrow to rewind a Video May cause your Roku unit to blue screen and reboot.

And although you have better battery life, than the 917, you still not may not be able to pair the remote to the Roku box at about 79%.  And you will occasionally get surprised reboots.
The newer Roku, RCB1r which has a light up screen and various other features Such as quick launch seems to have the best battery life.  The RCB1r  has sub models such as the 880, but there doesn’t appear to be Major operational differences.  You get different preset buttons for channels.

However, there are occasions that there is a red flashing light And for me two out of two of the newer remotes seemed to have a defective  microphone side switch. There’s no response if you push the switch up for on or pull the switch down for off.

I have to return that one.

Many people complain that the remote pro II does not have an earphone plug built-in. I use Bluetooth directly to the Roku ultra or Bluetooth to my iPhone or with my old iPhone (iPhone 6) I can plug earphones directly into the phone.  Those require use of Roku approved application that provides Roku access from the phone.  The phone doesn’t have to be connected to provider, it uses the same Wi-Fi connection your Roku uses.  The RCB1r  models Have a quirk That requires to pair them often. The  quirk is an error message. That says basically it can’t understand what you’re saying, And pair again.  I am staying with Roku. I believe they will resolve their hardware problems, and I want to believe they will resolve their software/firmware problems.
and occasionally, the Roku ultras are plagued with problems that require replacements no amount of rebooting or pairing those problems.

I still want to believe they’re working towards Superior product. I look forward to adding their Bluetooth speakers and maybe some home products as it’s very handy to talk to my phone and have it turn on lights or turn on or off the television.
