If you're encountering an error message stating "Sorry, unable to receive audio from your remote" in relation to a remote voice feature, it suggests an issue with the audio transmission between devices. Here's how you can troubleshoot this problem:

    1. **Check Network Connection:**
    - Ensure that both devices (the one you're trying to transmit audio from and the remote device) are connected to the same network. A stable and strong network connection is essential for transmitting audio reliably.

    2. **Restart Devices:**
    - Restart both the device you're using to transmit audio and the remote device. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches or connectivity issues.

    3. **Check Permissions:**
    - Verify that the necessary permissions are granted for the application or service you're using to transmit audio. This includes permissions related to microphone access, network access, and any other relevant permissions.

    4. **Update Software:**
    - Ensure that the software or application you're using is up to date. Check for any available updates and install them if necessary. Updates often include bug fixes and improvements that can help resolve issues with audio transmission.

    5. **Verify Audio Settings:**
    - Double-check the audio settings on both devices to ensure that the correct input/output devices are selected for audio transmission. Make sure that the microphone and speakers/headphones are properly connected and configured.

    6. **Test with Different Applications:**
    - If possible, try using a different application or service for audio transmission to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to a particular application or if it's a broader issue with audio transmission.

    7. **Check Firewall/Antivirus Settings:**
    - Firewalls or antivirus software on either device may block audio transmission. Check the settings of your firewall or antivirus software to ensure that they are not blocking the necessary ports or protocols for audio transmission.

    8. **Contact Support:**
    - If the issue persists after trying the above steps, consider reaching out to the support team of the application or service you're using for audio transmission. They may be able to provide further assistance or troubleshooting steps specific to their platform.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the error message related to audio transmission in your remote voice feature.

  • I have a RC834 I bought at Walmart for my Insignia NS-24DR220NA18 1-2 months ago. The vocal commands and reading of the remote via the TV was fine yesterday. Today, I hold down the voice button and nothing happens for 5 seconds, then this pops up (see attachment #1)

"Sorry, unable to receive audio from your remote. If this continues, try pairing your remote again."

The remote is also not being registered by my TV (see attachment #2)

First off, I checked for a new update, which my TV hadn't updated yet, but still no change. Restarted TV, then unplugged TV (not doing that again, please, not easy to unplug TV.) I WILL NOT FACTORY RESET TV AT ALL. So don't even attempt it yet.

Oh, by the way, I bought a RC834 for my living room TV and its voice command isn't working either. Could be a coincidence, but I doubt it. This must be on your end. Please fix it.

  • Hello I have also got the same issue. When I try and use the voice button it says ‘unable to hear you’. The unit is brand new, I’ve only been using for 2 weeks and have enjoyed the voice search function. It just stopped working suddenly.

I’ve tried repairing the remote, new batteries, factory reset on the Roku stick. Nothing is working.

This is my first Roku product and I was  originally very pleased with the controller and the Roku user interface design. But this is a real let down. If I can’t get it working I’ll have to return the item to the retailer and try and swap it for an Amazon fire stick instead.

    Software version 12.50 build 4169

My ROKU ultra is still under warranty. This remote is junk. The pop ups on my tv screen have never stopped. I turned off voice activation so I won’t get tv screen pop ups but they still appear non stop and ROKU has done absolutely zero about this issue even though multiple people are experiencing the problem. No recall and no admittance that the remotes are inferior. ROKU should be ashamed.

ROKU please do a total recall on your **bleep** voice activated remotes. I can’t stand the pop ups on my tv screen. You fix nothing. You have an employee overseas go through the same exact questions every time. Your remotes don’t work. It’s not ALEXA.

  • I’m having the same problem with my remote and using the microphone.  It’s worked fabulous until now.  Every time I try the voice function, I get the prompt “Sorry, unable to receive audio from your remote.” Or “Press and hold the microphone Burton while you speak.”  I am holding the button. This is the rechargeable Pro remote.  I’ve already done all the trouble shooting suggested with no results.  Can you guide me further please?

I had the same problem.   My Roku Ultra had two remotes paired to it.  One remote handled voice commands perfectly.  The other did not.  I tried customer support.  Nothing they suggested worked either.  I finally just bought another remote and I have had no problems since.

  • The TV I have is a TCL 65S535 and I've had this TV for over a year now. I've recently purchased the "Roku Voice Remote (Official) for Roku Players, Roku Audio, and Roku TV™" and voice control worked for the first hour after setup but has not worked afterwards. All other features on the remote are working.

Roku ultra. It pairs up and works and immediately quits working. I bought it from you this year. I have been on the phone with several people from Roku and they finally blamed my internet provider. Nice way to not help. I decided to live without the voice service but what is aggravating is your watching Roku and in the corner of your screen it keeps giving me a message even when you turn it off. It’s annoying.

      Hi Tsings,

We hear and completely understand you. This is not the experience we want you to have. We also appreciate the steps you have taken in an attempt to fix this issue.

We believe there's an ongoing investigation by our Roku engineers regarding this concern. To include your device in the said review and investigation, kindly provide us with the following:

      • Roku device or TV model, serial number, device ID, and software OS/version (these can all be found in Settings > System > About).
      • Tracker ID when this issue occurs (when you see this issue occur, press the Home button five times, followed by the Back button five times, and provide us with this ID).
      • The error message you've been receiving.

Ensuring all the information you will be providing is precise and complete would greatly impact our appropriate team's investigation. We look forward to your response.

      Sincerely,
      Janadee

  • I have a TCL Roku TV and decided to upgrade to the Roku Voice Remote.

After taking it out of the box and pairing it, all of the buttons work except for the microphone button. When I press and hold the microphone button and say something into the microphone hole, the Roku TV shows an error message:

"Sorry, unable to receive audio from your remote. If this continues, try pairing your remote again."

    WHAT HAVE I TRIED:

    • Pairing the Voice Remote again (more info below)
    • Rebooting both the TV and the remote, trying to pair again
    • Taking the batteries out of the old remote, trying to pair again
    • Network connection test
    • Network connection reset (on the TV)
    • Resetting TV audio/picture settings
    • Made sure the TV is connected to Wi-Fi via 5 GHz
    • Unplugging the nearby Google Home Mini speaker
    • Deleting all Roku devices from Google Home + unlinking Roku account

(After each of these steps, I tried pairing again)

    HERE'S MORE HELPFUL INFO

    • When I tried to pair the remote again, I see it's already paired and trying to add a new remote results in no remote being found, even though the remote seems to think that it found the TV (based on the blinking green light)
    • After every troubleshooting step, I tried pairing the remote again. Always the same result: "Voice Remote" stays in the remotes list, and the TV never "finds" the remote that it's already connected to.
    • No matter what I do, BOTH remotes continue to work. But the mic button on the voice remote always causes that error message.
    • The remote that came with the TV does NOT appear on the Remotes screen (I don't think it ever did)
    • The Voice Remote seems like it paired in a messed up way... On the About screen in Remote Settings, it says the Battery level is Unknown, and the Firmware version is Unknown.
    • I saw this Reddit post allegedly from a Roku developer, sounds like that's what's happening... but no matter what I do, I can't seem to get the Roku Voice Remote to actually un-pair with the Roku TV and re-pair in the correct way!

    MODEL NUMBERS, ETC

    Roku TV

    • TCL model: 50S425
    • Hardware ID: 7130X
    • Software version: 12.5.5 build 4174-30
    • TCL logo at bottom center of TV screen frame
    • Roku TV logo at bottom right of TV screen frame
    • The compatibility check on the store page said this remote would work with my device

    Roku Voice Remote

    • SKU# RCA1R
    • Model: RC918
    • Name: Voice Remote
    • Firmware version: Unknown [it actually says that]
    • It's the battery one, not the rechargeable one
    • Microphone hole to the left of the power button
    • No sync button

I've spent hours and hours troubleshooting this, reading support pages, troubleshooting pages, community posts, and Reddit posts... I really hope we can find a solution, and others with this same issue in the future can find this page to resolve it easier than we did.

Woah, my separate topic got moved into this thread as a post.

I think I shared all that info already aside from Tracker ID, (for the image, check out that Reddit link - my error looked exactly the same as the image on their post), and normally instead of saying this, I would just re-post that info for convenience, but guess what:

        IT FIXED ITSELF! 🎉🎉🎉

After a few days of using the new remote even though the mic button didn't work, like just using it for the normal buttons (cuz the new remote feels a little better than the old one), I decided to give the mic button a try again for no reason while I was in the YouTube app... and it freakin worked!!! Then I tried it on the Roku Home screen, and it works there too!

I checked in the about page and all the info there is the same, no new software update, the TV hasn't even been restarted - the Uptime says it's been on since then (I think I have the setting enabled for fast start or whatever it's called that keeps the TV "on" even when the screen is off)

        ...Woohoo!!

So for others who may be looking at this in the future: Maybe try using it for a week, just as a normal non-voice remote, and then, try to use the mic button inside an app.. Worked for me!
