Hello everyone,
We recently moved to a new building and all of our Roku devices are not working properly.
The Roku remote controls the TVs' on/off function and volume perfectly, but it can't control the Roku devices properly. The devices respond to one click and then stop responding for 30-40 seconds or more.
We tried 3 remotes and 3 different devices on 2 different TVs, and we have the same issue with all of them. All of them have fresh batteries, and we're taking the batteries out of the other two remotes every time we try one. We also unplugging the other device when we try to work on one.
It seems to me like there's another electronic device that works on the same frequency and is interfering with the Roku remote frequency.
Has anyone ever experienced this?
Thanks a lot!
It does sound like interference. The remote uses the same Wi-Fi channel as the device uses to connect to your network, so if you can, try a different Wi-Fi channel or a 2.4 vs. a 5 GHz channel. If it's a community Wi-Fi that the whole building uses, there may not be much, if anything, you can do.
Thanks for the quick response!
It's an office building, and we can't change any network configuration, unfortunately.
We just bought one Amazon Fire Stick, and it seems to be working perfectly.
After years of using Roku and being very happy with it, sadly, we had to get something else because we were not able to use them anymore.
Thanks again for the help!
I believe the Fire TV Stick uses Bluetooth, so while it's in the same frequency band as the WiFi network it's a different protocol that usually doesn't interfere with either other. Your only other option would be to use a simple IR remote for the Roku device, since the infrared wavelength is far, far away from WiFi or anything else that could interfere. The only issue with IR is if you have more than one Roku device in the same room, as the IR signal would be seen by all the devices at once. Also, if you're using a Roku Stick, then IR isn't supported.
