Watching tv and picked up the remote to change channels. The remote is extremely hot. Not charging it at the time. Shaking it does not turn on the backlight and none of the buttons work.
Is there a way to open it up to disconnect the batteries? The remote is currently sitting outside since it seems like the batteries are about to catch fire.
If it is overheating, then there is something wrong with the battery on the inside. The rechargeable remote isn't meant to be opened to replace the battery, unfortunately. Although it should be in my opinion. There are videos that show you how to open and replace them, but I won't guarantee that the remote will work after you do so. You might want to look into a replacement remote.
The remote is pretty easy to pry open. (just use something sharp and start near the purple Roku tag. Work around the case slowly and you will feel the tabs release. Then just unplug the battery. (wiggle the plug, not the wires).
Once these batteries begin to overheat, there really is no fix other than replacement. (although not in Roku remotes, I have had these similar battery packs overheat and actually catch fire so placing the remote outside was a good idea.)
This battery 3.8v 1600mah 34451 battery does not seem yet available for seperate purchase online easily so would recommend you start a warranty claim. https://support.roku.com/article/208757058
The batteries for the older Voice Remote V1 are available for seperate purchase (822048/BG047) from third parties but is a different battery than the backlit v2 unfortunately.
Perhaps @RokuMaryEF or @RokuTakashi can offer some assistance to expedite.
