If the remote doesn't have an earphone jack, it doesn't do private listening.  The only thing external to the remote I've ever seen suggested causing battery drain is wifi channel congestion as mentioned in this prior post.

I’m having the very same issue with two of my remotes. The batteries are prematurely drained. Serial numbers:

I’m also having the remote draining issue, and the remote makes a high pitched noise when batteries are installed. Looking for some help if possible
