I'm grateful for getting a direct response and have ordered the extender. I do not understand how this will address the problem but will give it a shot and report back after it arrives, thank you.
I had the same problem and stumbled onto the solution. Hold down the reset button on the Roku stick itself will plugging it into power. Keep holding it down - it will boot up but then go into a pairing mode where it actually sees the remote.
Unfortunately this is the only way to repair the remote. I like others went through every imaginable troubleshooting. I’ve had Roku since they came out. The sticks are the ones I’ve always had issues with and I’ll never buy another one. Anyway yes resetting the stick is the only was short of buying a new remote. That will fix this.
Thank you for sharing this valuable input with the Roku community, @Warzau1!
This will help other customers experiencing similar issues with pairing the remote. As an additional suggestion, consider using our Roku mobile app as a temporary backup remote. For detailed instructions, please refer to our dedicated support article on How to use the Roku mobile app.
Was having the same problem. @IsItAboutMyCube's solution (unplug the power from the Roku stick, then hold down the reset button on the Roku stick while plugging it back in) worked for me, and I was finally able to pair.
This is such an unbelievably bad experience, Roku. I can't even imagine my parents or kids trying to troubleshoot this. Laughable, too, that the link in my Roku Streaming Stick 4K manual for help on fixing the remote (go.roku.com/remotepair) goes to instructions for the voice remote. Totally wrong device.
Using a 4630x box (wired network connection) with a RC-GZ1 voice remote connected to a Samsung TV. No problems until the latest software update on Aug 17. Then, the box would no longer recognize the remote for pairing. Lots of device reset cycles and a network reset did not resolve the issue. Factory reset using the button on the bottom of the box did the trick. Annoying to have to set up the network and all streaming services after that, but everything now works.
I’m having the same problem. So frustrated. I’ve tried every port, I have the hdmi extender. I’ve tried a dozen times. I can’t get past the language /pair screen.
Did you try the solution I posted a few messages back? Seems to work for several people. Unplug power from the Roku stick, press and hold the reset button on the stick while plugging in power and continue to hold that button down. After a few seconds that forces the pairing.
Yes, I tried this about a bazillion times. In each port. I seem to have the same problem as the poster where I’ll probably need a replacement. I’m going to return it.
