TCL Roku tv seen by device but will not connect.

My tv is seen by my device and even gets to the point of connecting but doesn't go all the way.  It stops at the black screen with the purple status bar that reads "starting video from ...." And lists my device.  Screen also has a white "stop video" button available that remote activated if desired.  The status bar is about 1/3 across screen when it shows and never moves.  Both devices on same network, I've tried the "always ask"  and "allow" suggestion.  I've cycled both devices wifi, even tried wifi direct and all end the same way.  I've  tried devices cast icon, apps and wifi direct.... Which is my preferred way to connect.  I've tried several brands of phone including Samsung, LG and Motorola.  All see the tv and try to connect but stop as previously described.  I've been successful in the past with Samsung note9 but others no.  I know Motorola doesn't support Miracast so I tried wifi direct and again same ending.  Can anyone help?

Re: TCL Roku tv seen by device but will not connect.

Thanks but your link gives me no new info that I wasn't already aware of.  My problem isn't that one device or the other isn't set up properly or that the Roku tv isn't seen by the device or that I don't know what screen casting is called by various manufacturers.  My tv is seen, my device sends invitation and it is "allowed" on my Roku tv.  But it nevers starts casting.  Device says its connected to Roku tv but there is no screen mirroring/casting going on.  I appreciate you taking the time to respond but it wasn't any help.  🙏

Re: TCL Roku tv seen by device but will not connect.

Hi @Castingwannabe

Thank you for following up.

Even though the terms "casting" and "screen mirroring" are commonly interchanged in the industry, there are differences when using them with your Roku device.

With some apps, the casting icon may not appear until you begin playback on your mobile device.

With a long list of companies manufacturing Android devices, each with a variety of models, it may be challenging to determine if your Android device supports screen mirroring. In general, if your device is running Android version 4.2 or later (and is not a Google-branded device running OS 6.0 or later, like a Google Nexus or Pixel), it likely supports screen mirroring. However, it is not uncommon for manufacturers to use a unique, branded term when describing the feature. To assist with setting up and enabling screen mirroring on your Android device, here are some common terms used on popular devices:

  • Smart View
  • Quick Connect
  • SmartShare
  • AllShare Cast
  • Wireless display
  • Display mirroring
  • HTC Connect
  • Screen casting
  • Cast

If you cannot easily determine the term for your device or you are not certain your device supports screen mirroring, refer to the manufacturer's website or contact them directly. You may also want to try an internet search using the phrase "screen mirroring" along with the brand and model of your device.

Also, to further identify the issue, may we know what OS version your phone is running?

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Best regards,

Mares

Hi @MrWizard209,

Thanks for letting us know.

May we know the following details?

  • Which of your devices has this issue? Could you provide us with the device ID by going through Settings > System > About?
  • What have you done so far in an attempt to fix this issue?
  • What mobile brand are you using to perform screen mirroring?

With more details, we'll be able to provide an accurate resolution. Please keep us posted.
