Hi @Janie8,

Thanks for the post to the Roku Community!

We appreciate you reaching out to us. We want to take action on this, but we need more details to determine if there are any options we can investigate further.

Refer to these questions to better identify the issue you're experiencing.

  • What model is your Roku TV? (Hisense, TCL, ONN, Select Series, Pro, Series, Plus Series, etc.)
  • What is your device's OS version?
  • Are there any changes in the setup or settings of your Roku device or your network provider that might cause the problem?
  • Are you receiving any error messages or codes?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you taken so far to resolve the issue?

With more detailed information, we'll be able to assist you further.

All the best,
Chel

Re: Roku TV starts but no menu or apps appear

I am having the same problem.

TCL 65", no changes to my network equipment, only updates are the ROKU updates.

We turn the TV on, but no apps or menu. I can use the voice control on the remote to go to ie You Tube TV etc.

When we press the menu key on the remote, we received the screen saver/wall board display, no menu.

If we press it Netflix on the remote, it takes us to Netflix. Exir, no menu.

If I do a hard power down, remove the TV from power, wait 5 mins min, power the TV back up, then we have a menu, but that works one time.

The TCL is 5 years old, but was working until the last ROKU update.

Thank you.

@Azalbee,

Thank you for posting in the Roku Community!

We appreciate you contacting us about the issue you're experiencing with your TCL Roku TV. We understand how important it can be when menus or apps are missing from your home screen, and we're here to help.

system restart is the least invasive reset method. Please use the instructions below to restart the system from the Settings menu.

  1. Press Home on your Roku remote

  2. Scroll and select Settings
  3. Select System
  4. Select Power. If you do not see a Power submenu, skip to the next step.
  5. Select System restart

In either case, your Roku device will complete a system restart and hopefully return to regular operation after a moment.

For detailed information on restarting your system, please check here: How to restart or factory reset your Roku streaming device.

Thanks,
Arjiemar

I found a work around for the no menu

Jump to solution
I have figured out a workaround.

If your background/screen saver has been changed to the winter scene for example, go back to the menu and change the background/screen saver to the Subaru National Park one.

One can do a hard power down and hope your tv comes back to the menu screen.

If not, use the voice command "screen saver screen", you will then need to click the ok button to open the screen.

After changing this, I restarted my TCL TV multiple times and the menu appeared each time.

Good luck

Hello
Try this

Your Roku TV is stuck in a software glitch, especially if you can't access the main menu or any apps. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try before attempting a factory reset:

Power Cycle the TV: You’ve already unplugged it for a few hours, but try a different approach—unplug the TV, hold the power button (if accessible) for about 15-30 seconds to drain any residual power, then plug it back in after a minute.

Reset Using the Remote: Try a "soft reset" if your remote is functional. Press the following buttons in sequence:
Home button 5 times, Up once, Rewind twice, and Fast Forward twice.
This might force a system reboot without accessing the settings menu.

Look for a Physical Reset Button: Many TCL Roku TVs have a small reset button on the back or side of the TV. Use a paperclip or a small pointed object to press and hold this button for about 10-20 seconds. This can sometimes reset the TV without requiring the on-screen menu.

Check HDMI Connections: If you have any devices plugged into the HDMI ports, disconnect them and see if the TV responds differently. Sometimes, a faulty HDMI connection can interfere with the TV’s startup.

Contact TCL Support: If these steps don’t work, it might be a deeper software issue. Contacting TCL support or checking for troubleshooting guides specific to your model may provide additional options.

If you can access the reset button or find a way to dismount the TV temporarily, a factory reset might be the next step.
