Hi @Muzishn @Lady80,

Thank you for keeping us posted, and welcome to the Roku Community!

We understand you're having a problem with the Roku TV. We're happy to help. Please try to factory reset your Roku TV by locating it on the back or bottom of your TV. The physical reset button is either tactile or a pinhole design that requires a straightened paperclip. Once you locate the Reset button and your Roku TV is powered on, press and hold the button firmly for about 10 seconds.

You may also use this support article here on how to system restart or factory reset your Roku streaming device.

Let us know how it goes, and we'll wait for your updates.

Kind regards,

John

Re: Roku tv screen goes black

Jump to solution

@Media_Guy,

Thank you for your prompt response.

First, make sure the TV is turned on and press a button on the Roku remote control to ensure that the Roku device is not in standby or screensaver mode.

These are the most common reasons you may not see the picture on your TV:

1. You have the wrong input (source) selected on your TV

  • This is extremely common and an easy mistake to make. Most TV’s have several video inputs on the back or side of the TV that are used for connecting different devices such as a cable box, gaming console, and of course, Roku player. You must select the input (sometimes referred to as source) that matches the one to which you have the Roku player connected.
  • The way you change inputs can be different based on the brand of TV and model, but it is usually accessible from a button on the TV's remote control. If you can, check the instructions that came with your television, or try the following:
  • Look for a button on your TV remote control that says Input, Source, AUX, Video, TV/Video or something similar. Press this button. Depending on your TV, pressing the button may cycle through available inputs, or it may display a menu with a choice of inputs.

2. The video cable is not connected properly or the cable is faulty

  • Check that the video cable is firmly connected to the back of your Roku player and to the HDMI or composite connector on the TV. If you have a Roku Streaming Stick, then make sure it is firmly connected to the HDMI connector on your TV.
  • If you can, check to see if you have a faulty cable by connecting your Roku player with a different cable.

3. There is a problem with the TV

  • If you can, try connecting the Roku player to a different input on the TV to see if the problem is with connector on the TV.
  • If you can, try connecting the Roku player to a different television to see if the problem is with your Roku player or the TV.

4. Enable CEC or disable auto power savings

  • If you do not see a picture after pressing a button on your Roku remote, it is possible that your player cannot "wake up" your TV over the HDMI connection. To fix this, make sure that HDMI-CEC is enabled on your TV. If you prefer your player never enters the low power mode, you can disable auto power savings.

5. If all else fails…

  • Disconnect and reconnect all cables including the power cable.

Please keep us posted on what you find out, and we will be happy to continue assisting you further. We look forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks,
Arjiemar

@Ramos22, until the last 6 months all Roku TVs were made by some company other than Roku.  So... who's the manufacturer of your TV?  They're the ones you need to contact.

Mine does the same thing only when watching Amazon and Disney+. All other apps don't do it. It will come back on after powering off and back on but we have to watch a different app. Hope the tv isn't going out. It's only about a year old.

Hi @Jperez8214,

Welcome to the Roku Community, and thanks for posting about this issue!

We understand you're having a problem with the Amazon and Hulu channels since, after launching any show or movie, it will go to a black screen. We're happy to help. Please try these troubleshooting steps below.

  • Remove the channel: Highlight the channel tile on your home screen and press Star to open the Options menu. Select Remove channel and confirm.
  • Restart your Roku device: Press home on your Roku remote, select settings, select system, and system restart.
  • Re-install the channel: Scroll down to search, put the name of the channel or app, highlight the channel, and select add the channel.

If the problem persists, please try to update the software of your Roku by pressing the home button on your Roku remote, selecting settings, system, software/system update, and checking now.

Please keep us posted on what you find out.

All the best,

John

the black screen is not the TV, it was the Roku device that was causing the problem. I just so happened to have an extra one to change them out, and now my TV works fine

Was just watching Netflix and screen goes black but audio was still on. I tried powering the tv off and then on. No fix. Then I tried to do a factory reset. Same problem. My tv is 8 months old with no damage. What do I do @RokuJohnB @renojim

Did you remove the Roku product from the tv physically? How do I do that? @Soswendi

As with many other people on this thread… I bought my TV six months ago to use in my New York crash pad… It’s been turned on less than 30 times… always unplugged when I’m away. And last night I turned it on and had a black screen… I did the suggested unplugging it for five minutes, even overnight… I’ve pushed the reset button… I’ve done everything… And it still will not work… So I suppose I have to throw it in the trash because there is no return on it now. Roku knows of this issue… it’s happened to many of us. They should do a recall on the select series 32 inch… They should make it right but, like the rest of us, I’m just screwed and out $175.
