I went to switch my tcl Roku tv from Hulu to HBO it went black with sounds of the remote.. just a black screen I tried to reset it with remote power off and on.. please help tv might be 4 years old
@Meredith183, sorry, but you'll find many, many reports of the same thing. Try unplugging the power for an extended period like overnight and see if the picture comes back. If it does, turn down the brightness. That may keep it from happening in the future.
If it doesn't come back and if you can shine a bright light on your TV and see a picture, something within the TV has failed. Replacing the failed component probably isn't something the average user can do, but you can search the Internet for instructions and what you'd need to buy.
It would be TCL's responsibility, but given that it's long out of warranty they won't help you.
Hi, @MEB13
Greetings, and welcome to the Roku Community.
Based on your statements, we can see that you're having the same issue with the black screen display while the sound is functioning on your TCL Roku TV, and we understand the situation you're going through. We would recommend reaching out to TCL's support directly and inquiring further for support. As for Roku TV that is manufactured by TCL, they provide direct support with their TV models since they only use the Roku as their operating system.
You can reach them at TCL Support
Hoping this will be sorted out soon.
Best wishes,
Kash
Hi Community users!
Thank you for keeping us updated.
We understand that the black screen issues with your Roku TV are persistent; at this point, we would recommend performing a factory reset with your Roku TV by locating the reset button at the back of the TV, pressing and holding it for 10 seconds.
Let us know if this helps.
All the best,
Janadee
For me I unplugged the tv from the surge protector and plugged it directly into the outlet. It started working again after I did this.
Hi Community users!
Thanks for keeping us in the loop.
If the troubleshooting steps above did not fix the issue, we recommend reaching out to the TV manufacturer, as this may be a hardware issue that requires their expertise. You can refer to this link to contact support directly for your Roku TV.
We hope this gets sorted out soon. Let us know if you have further inquiries.
Best regards,
Janadee
I was having same problem, I went into settings and changed the brightness level from brighter to bright. It’s been working fine for one day so far
Thanks for responding, @Netto.
Apologies for the confusion. It's for future reference only.
If the issue persists despite having the workaround, we highly recommend reaching out directly to your TV manufacturer for additional reinforcement as this could be a power issue. You may reach them here: TCL Support
In the meantime, we appreciate you sharing your workaround.
Best regards,
Carly
Hi @Adventure841,
Welcome to the Roku Community!
We appreciate you for letting us know about the trouble you have with the black screen with sound on your Sharp Roku TV and the steps you took to resolve it.
It's possible that your TV may be experiencing a software or hardware issue that is causing the black screen. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
Check the input source: Make sure you have selected the correct input source on your TV. You can do this by pressing the input or source button on your TV remote and selecting the input that corresponds to the device you're using.
Check the cables: Ensure that all the cables connected to your TV and the device you're using (such as a cable box or streaming device) are securely plugged in and not damaged. Try unplugging and plugging them back in to see if this helps.
Try a different device: If you have another device available, such as a DVD player or game console, try connecting it to your TV to see if you get a picture. This can help determine if the issue is with the TV or the original device you were using.
Reset the TV: Try resetting your TV to its factory settings. You can usually do this by going to the settings menu on your TV and selecting "System" or "Reset."
Contact manufacturer support: If none of the above steps work, you may need to contact the manufacturer's support team for further assistance. They may be able to diagnose the issue and provide a solution or recommend a repair.
We hope it helps!
All the best,
Chel

My tv is doing the same thing but when I shine a light at it. It doesn't show anything at all.

My tv went out and they said I’m on my own.
Make sure your Roku device/stick shows a blinking light before plugging it back into the TV.
