Re: Removing Ads on Home Screen

Jump to solution

Hi, @LekaKaft.

Greetings from the Roku Community.

We completely understand your input and we'd like to share further information about this.

If you remove ads on your Home screen by highlighting the channel tile and consistently pressing the star (*) button on your remote, it will show the Roku logo at the very end.

Furthermore, regarding your feedback on the ads shown on your Home screen, rest assured that we'll share this with the team. Feel free to let us know if there's anything else you'd like us to address. We'd be happy to listen.

Best regards,
Carly

Welcome to the Roku Community, @Als1005!

Thanks for letting us know about this commercial. We'd like to know more about this and suggest some steps to help you manage your ad preference.

Just to clarify, is this a poster ad that can be seen on your Home screen? If so, you can actually hide it by highlighting this poster and pressing the star (*) button on your remote. You can also control the types of ads shown on the Home Screen and screensaver of your Roku streaming device.

If this is a commercial being prompted during playback, you'll be able to modify this by following the steps provided by our support articleHow to manage ad preferences

We hope you find this information helpful.

Best regards,
Carly

When I go to my home screen, I simply don't want to see any ads.  It seems pretty silly, doesn't it, to have to repeatedly press the asterisk button until the Roku logo shows up?  I've done that.  There's very little satisfaction in it.  You're probably able to use your PC without contending with Miscrosoft forcing ads onto your desktop, right?  Microsoft doesn't tell you click through multiple ads about sd cards, wireless mice, and external hard drives, til the Microsoft logo comes around, do they?

Is there any update on this or are we still forced to have ads on the Home Screen?

The only update you'll get from Roku will be the usual bs.  "Thank you for your input.  Here's a handy thing you can do that won't really take away the ads, but at least you can pretend to be satisfied by replacing one ad with a different one. Rest assured, we're working on it."

There are a variety of business models in the world. Roku uses one that became very popular in the 90s where you sell hardware at or below cost and make money on advertising and access deals. If you don't like that model, then Apple TV or a Windows PC may be a preferable TV platform for you. I've also heard that the latest generation of Raspberry Pis have become pretty competent.

Please note that in my comments, I have expressed my willingness to pay a monthly subscription fee, in order to have an ad-free home screen.

This "feature", aka "no ads on the home screen," was available when I bought my TV, and when I bought my Roku streaming device.
