This sequence of steps will make no difference unless Roku applies the fix that Britbox BBC itv has provided you. (You left out updating system and app)
I've done this numerous times for 6 months.
BUT, it looks like Roku may have applied the fix after all because I now am finally able to open Britbox BBC itv without it rebounding back to Home Screen. Hopefully it stays! It's been two days. Fingers crossed!
When watching Hulu and you change channels it reverts back to the Roku Home Screen
Is there any way to prevent this from happening? It just started yesterday 12/9/23 and is still doing it today
So far it has not gone back on the firestick or on the Roku box. But I'll continue to monitor,

Have you tried restarting your Roku device to see if it helps? We recommend doing this from the Settings menu by navigating to Settings > System > Power > System restart. (If you do not see the Power submenu, skip to the next step.)

This started around the 8th of December 2023
That is when Disney started integrating Hulu (on demand only) into Disney+. It's possible they also updated Hulu, which introduced a bug.
What the heck is going on, looking at ESPN (Monday night football) and it reverts to Fox or some recent channel I was looking at. This just started today (12/11/23) on Hulu Live, all apps are up to date and latest version of software for Roku and Hulu.
2 year old Roku Ultra. This week it started closing apps and going to Home Screen. Tried all of the updates, restarts, unplugs, etc. Hardwired Internet, Roku plugged into wall outlet directly. WTF over?
Just did it for the 6th time in 30 minutes with Youtube. Does it with Adult Swim, Retro TV, ESPN during freaking HOCKEY. Bummer........
