Roku TV screen appears too dim even on “Brighter” setting

Hi,

I’m experiencing a display issue with my Roku TV. When I turn it on, the screen is not black, but the image appears very dim and hard to see properly. It’s like the brightness is low, but I’ve already set it to the “Brighter” option in the settings.

The TV works fine otherwise—apps open, sound is working, and I can see the menus—but the screen remains darker than normal and it’s difficult to view content comfortably.

Has anyone had a similar issue or know how to fix it?

Thanks!

  • I have my main problem when trying to watch the ROKU Channel on my laptop. The difference is like night and day literally; the night being my laptop and the ROKU Channel on my ROKU tv being day. The brightness is about an 8-10/10 on the tv, and the brightness is about a 4/10 on the laptop almost to the point of the old black and white TVs. I really thought I was the only one having a problem with this issue, but my issue is switched. I would rather watch 90% of what I watch on the laptop because my hearing is bad, and I hear better with the laptop. I can't find the setting on the laptop to increase the brightness. ROKU is my only problem when streaming. Peacock, Prime, etc. are perfect.

gail8  The quality of video on a computer can depend on the laptop and quality of video card/monitor in that laptop.  Some laptops have terrible video cards and screens and can give you issues.  Not saying that is the case here but I have seen it with budget level laptops.

      Hi there! gail8

We understand you're having brightness issues with your Roku device on your laptop. To get a better look, could you let us know:

      • When did you first notice the issue?
      • What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?
      • What’s the brand of your laptop?

Also, try connecting your Roku device to a different TV, monitor or laptop to see if the issue persists. This can help identify whether the problem is with the Roku or the display it's connected to.

Let us know what you find!

  • In fact, I have the exact same problem with my Roku TV: even on the "Brighter" setting, the screen remains far too dim, even though the sound and menus function well.  I'm glad I'm not by myself!  Has there ever been a solution or workaround for this?
