Seeking Suggestions for Roku Setup with Mixed 4K and HD Displays – Any Limitations to Know?
I’m exploring a possible Roku setup for a household with a mix of TVs—some 1080p, some 4K. The idea is to use a single Roku account across multiple devices (some wired, some wireless), possibly through a mix of streaming sticks and boxes. Before jumping in, I was wondering: Are there any limitations or quirks when using 4K-capable Roku devices with older HD-only TVs? How well does Roku manage app performance or UI consistency across different resolutions? Does audio passthrough or video upscaling behave differently depending on the device (e.g., Streaming Stick 4K vs. Ultra)? Is it better to match Roku models to each display’s native resolution for smoother performance? Just trying to avoid compatibility issues or lag. Any tips from those with similar multi-TV setups would be great. Thanks in advance!46Views1like2CommentsStatic Sound from 55’ ROKU TCL SMART TV
I have a nice 55 inch TCL Roku Smart TV I had for over 5 years now since 2019. Through the years it never really gave me any issues until outta nowhere after all these years I hear a real bad static sound that immediately happened out of nowhere. It isn’t too bad yet it’s pretty annoying and I do not know what might be the cause of it. I’d like to know if there’s a solution to getting rid of this issue cause it can hurt my ears at times especially in my sleep. If anyone knows how to solve this technical problem going on with my TV I’d sure really would appreciate it. Good morning. I purchased a Westinghouse Roku TV. I want to connect it to my Xfinity cable box. We have it paired with the correct HDMI port but the only message we keep getting is that is looking for a signal. What am I missing?37Views1like2CommentsRoku TV USB Firmware Update - "Can't install older software"
TV model: Onn 50" Roku TV 100007147 Hardware ID: 7819X I'm trying to repair this TV after it quit displaying and image and got it to power on again after replacing the main board. The replacement board is identical but has firmware for a different TV model installed on it. The image is stretched with vertical lines which I believe is due to the incorrect firmware. The TV hardware appears fine but the current firmware is for a 70" model, which makes sense as to why the image is stretched out. I've loaded the correct update file from tvupdate.roku.com but am getting a message that says "Can't install older software version" "Your TV is running more up-to-date software. Installing older software is not allowed. Download a new file and try again." There is no error code. It just seems like the firmware version on the replacement board is newer than what's offered on the tvupdate site. I've seen a couple of other threads about this message but no useful information. What I'm looking for is a way to force install the firmware from USB or a newer firmware file that will install correctly. I'm very hopeful that the correct firmware would get the TV working correctly and keep it out of the landfill.49Views0likes1CommentFirmware updates force HDR on older Roku TV models
I have an older Roku TV that doesn't have full HDR support, however recent updates hide the non-HDR video modes and force enable HDR. Because the TV doesn't have full support, the picture appears washed out. In this case leaving HDR off provides a much better picture. Thankfully there is a secret menu I can access, where I can disable HDR entirely. After doing this my picture looks great again. Sadly every time there's a new firmware update, HDR is enabled, and I have to go through the process of disabling it all over again. It's kinda annoying. So which is it? Does Roku not expect anyone to be using an older TV with bad HDR support? Or are they trying to make me think my picture looks bad so I'll buy a new TV? Either way it's pretty irresponsible, and I'll likely be going with a non-Roku TV when I do finally upgrade. And if anyone on the firmware dev team reads these forums, you can still turn this around. Just leave the non-HDR video options available, even if it's limited to older models. I'm not the only person having to deal with this, so please help and keep these perfectly good TVs out of the trash.55Views0likes1Comment
