Roku “not connected”, remote not working

My roku was disconnected on accident. When I reconnected it the battery wasn’t working. I tried to re-pair it but the green light keeps flashing and no pairing is happening. The roku screen itself says “not connected” although my internet hasn’t changed. I tried unplugging router, unplugging roku and taking batteries out of remote before attempting to re-pair but nothing Is working. Can anyone help?

  • I am making this post because I recently went through something very similar. We unplugged the roku stick from the wall to move it to an extension chord, and after that the roku stick wouldn’t connect to the internet (not connected message in the top right corner), and of course to follow the remote wouldn’t pair (pairing light kept blinking). We reset the roku stick several times, unplugged it from the extension chord and plugged it back in several times, took the batteries out of the remote, changed the batteries, reset the remote, reset the router, all of the things. Nothing was working.

Well come to find out, the usb plug that is directly connected to the roku stick itself was unplugged ever so slightly. It was plugged in juuuuust enough to turn the roku stick on, but apparently not enough to do anything else. I know this sounds so stupid, obviously you’ve probably checked the chords (as we did) but make sure everything is plugged in really well on all fronts. In the stick itself, the middle connection and then the wall. The exact same things others were experiencing in this thread was happening to us and stumped if for two days lol.

I hope this solves someone’s issues!

Thanks walke192 so much for your post!  The same thing happened to my roku.  It was plugged in just enough to receive power, but not enough to connect to the internet.  I pushed the roku further into the HDMI slot and now everything works!  I had the same Not connected issues as everyone else.  Whew!  Back in business

I have a Roku 4 i am nor able to connnec to any remote

I brought it to another TV where another SECOND Roku is currently working and switched them out    This one that works is a different  modelI was able to connect  this.

Both of these accept a WIRED connection.  With the second one - I connected wired WIRED connection then updated the wireless connection  (I recently installed a new   router)   And connected it to a remote.

But the first roku is stuck on the main ROKU screen playing the hynoptic music.  No remote will work with it.  and the roku app on my Android cell phone doesn't see it.

HAS this first one died?  Lights on still on the roku.

      Hello!

I've run into this same issue today:  Roku will not connect to WiFi (even though other devices connect successfully) and the Roku remote will work for a couple of clicks and then cease to function.

I've tried a hard reset of the Roku Stick, have taken batteries out of the remote and re-paired (with fresh batteries), rebooted my WiFi...

I even tried the unplug and re-plug found here:
      https://community.roku.com/t5/Network-Wireless-Wired-Connections/Roku-not-connecting-to-Internet-or-Remote/td-p/594724

      But no remedies have worked.

RokuDanny-R :  are you able to assist?  Thank you!

        Hi everyone,

I ended up getting a new stick with ability to access internet long distance. My previous roku was six years old. Good luck.

What model Roku? When you say not connected, you are referring to the network connection?

I believe to activate the pairing with a WiFi Direct remote, it has to be done within a certain length of time after booting the Roku. Not saying that as a fact, but I think it has to be initiated within 30 seconds or so of booting the Roku up.

If the Roku has a network connection, you could use the Roku app on a phone or tablet, and initiate the remote pairing from the Settings/Remote menu. But that won't work without a working network connection for the Roku.

“Roku streaming stick plus”. On the Home Screen of roku in the top right corner it says “not connected”. I assume that means internet isn’t connected. I tried the app and it can’t find a device so I assume it’s because device isn’t connected to internet? I pushed the pairing button within five seconds of reconnecting the roku but the light just keeps flashing 😞

Thank you. Yes, that means no network connection so no ability to use the app. I'm now at a loss for why it's not connecting. RokuDanny-R will likely have some additional trouble-shooting tips to try.
