Hello!
Just bought my first Roku (Roku Ultra box w/ remote)! Loving it except that it turns itself on after I turn it off. It doesn’t turn on the tv. Just the Roku box. Any ideas how to fix it? I’ve tried restarting it as well as unplugging it/plugging it back in.
Any help would be appreciated!
Roku devices never really turn off. That power button on the remote is strictly for the TV. There is a "power saving" option under Settings->System->Power that honestly doesn't save all that much power and seems to be more trouble than it's worth. The light on the front is supposed to turn off when the screensaver activates or it enters "power saving" mode, but I'd say the light is pretty unreliable. There's been plenty of complaints similar to yours since that "power saving" option was added not too long ago. As long as it's not turning on the TV or presenting some other issue, you'd be better off forgetting about it than waiting for Roku to get it figured out.

Thank you, renojim! What a super helpful response. I’ll consider this problem “solved”! 👍
Our Roku Ultra appears to be turning on our TV at odd hours even after we have switched from Roku back to our cable service before turning off our TV. Could it be because the remote is programed to control certain functions, such as on/off and volume control?
Hi @mbjim,
Thanks for your first post in the Roku Community!
We understand that you are facing an issue with the Roku Ultra that keeps turning on your TV. We would be more than happy to look further into this issue but will need more details. Can you please provide us with the following information:
We look forward to hearing from you and looking closely into this issue. Thank you!

This Solution doesn't Resolve the Light Staying On or Shutting Down the Ultra Lt. After viewing on the Ultra Lt, I press the power button on the remote both the TV and Roku Ultra turn off, and goes Offline as it should. But after about 20 Minutes the Ultra Lt turns itself back on again, and stays Online, TV does not turn on when this happens.
Hi @BenzRadio,
Thank you for the first post in the Roku Community!
We appreciate you letting us know about the behavior you are seeing with your Roku device and the troubleshooting steps you've taken so far.
May we ask what the TV manufacturer and model are connected to the misbehaving Ultra? In addition, how are you powering the Roku device? Is it plugged into the TV USB port, or is it plugged into the wall outlet with the provided cables?
By providing additional details, we will be better equipped to provide you with further assistance.
All the best,
Chel
Go to Settings/System/Power/Auto Power Savings. Uncheck “After 20 minutes of no interaction”.
It worked for me. It is the opposite of what it says. Seems like a simple software upgrade to fix.
There are no 'simple software upgrades to fix' anything when it comes to Roku. They ignore things like this for the most part and even if they do fix it the process could literally take years. They are far more interested in creating new junk to embed into the software that people don't want than to actually address their glitches.
Tomar200 your excellent suggestion is the only one that made sense and worked for me like a charm. It’s just a shame that by check marking the power saving option it is actually doing the opposite. I was so frustrated to power down my TV and Roku at the same time with the power button on the Roku remote and then the Roku would power back up after 20 minutes and stay on indefinitely. I tried everything and nothing worked until I tried your suggestion. You’re right about a simple software update would fix this but I doubt that it will ever happen.
