Hello,
I have a Streaming Stick, the HDMI version, and, when trying to set it up, I'm constantly getting the 011 error code. Is there any way I can solve this?
Thanks,
Csaba
Error 011 indicates a failure in connecting to the update server. This could indicate a failure to connect to the internet on your end, or a failure at Roku's end.
See this help article from Roku: What to do if you see error code 011 (Cannot connect to Roku)
Hi, thanks for your answer. I found this article, too, and, based on it, I cannot see that Roku has some outage right now. On my end, I also cannot find issues with my internet setup - works just fine with all my other devices.
I also checked if the security setup on my router would be too advanced for this model of Roku. I enabled a guest network without any security added to it (passwordless access) and in my router's interface I can see that an IP is assigned to the Roku device.
Still an error code 011 is returned.
There's a trick that has worked for some people when they encounter this error. Why this works we have no idea, but it has been successful. Try connecting your Stick to a different Internet connection, such as a hotspot on your phone. Again, it makes no sense, but it has worked for many users. Once it updates, reconnect to your home network and it should continue to work fine.
Thanks for the suggestion: tried it with an iPhone hotspot, didn't work. will try it again and additionally from an Android phone, as well.
Tried with 2 different "normal" internet sources, different providers, different routers. Then with 2 different hotspots iPhone and Google Pixel - same result in each case: the Roku device can connect to these networks, but then fails to successfully "call home".
Well, that answers that question. It's always good to try, but in this case it is sounding like there's something defective with your Stick. Can you confirm the model number? Go to Settings/System/About to find the number. Also, if it's a purple case, that's the 3500 and it's no longer supported by Roku (which would be the obvious answer to your issue).
Just a point of clarification: if the Roku has the HDMI connector directly attached to the player, meaning you plug it directly into a TV without the need for an HDMI cable, then it's a Roku Stick. If an HDMI cable is needed to connect the player, then it's not a stick.
If purple is bad, then this is as purple as it gets 🙂 It's clear then, I guess: it's not supported anymore. Thanks for your help with this.
Yep, that's the one 🙂
