My roommate's Roku Stick constantly spikes up to over 200/300/400/500 mbps bandwidth and constantly tanks the internet for me while I'm gaming (hardwired directly ro router). My router has a real-time traffic monitor, so I can see how much bandwidth is being used by connected devices at any given time. To be clear, I'm not talking about the amount of bandwidth used in a day. I'm talking about real time. It will spike to over 500 mbps sometimes and my games will have insane lag, and videos on my phone and other devices will stop. It usually just spikes up to around 200/300 which is still enough to tank the internet for everyone else at the time of the spikes. It's absolutely insane and I can't figure out what to do about it. Please help.

My internet speeds are 500 mbps down and 20 mbps up btw

It is not uncommon for an internet service provider (ISP) to impose a data cap, or bandwidth cap, to limit the amount of data a customer can download in a given period of time, typically a month. When such a limit is exceeded, penalties can include additional fees, slowed download speeds, and even blocked service. If your ISP has a bandwidth cap, you can use a feature called Bandwidth Saver to help avoid going over your monthly data limit by automatically halting streaming after four hours of inactivity on your Roku streaming player or Roku TV.
