I thought I would do a nice thing this past holiday season and get some friends off of using the built in dumpsterfiretv. I seen the Streaming stick 4k had DoVi and was only $49.99, Great!
They open it Christmas day and are super excited about it. They plug it in as soon as they get home and I get the message "Oh nooo, It's not working!" Followed by a picture of an error 022 Wireless receiver not detected screen.
I look for solutions online and the only real one I could find is returning it to the store. The method of opening the receiver and flipping the board is NOT a solution. While it does make the error go away, the remote will not work in that way. So back to the store it went. I really wanted to believe this was not that common of an issue despite the many reports online about it. Some experiencing on at least 3 returns.
Well the exchanged one did not have that error, hurray all is well and Roku is great! Right? NOPE. While there was no error 022 this time, every so often at completely random intervals 020 HDCP error detected would briefly pop up and then go. the colours would get weird and over saturated over time.
Well that was enough of that. Back to the store it went. Never again would I buy or recommend ANYONE buy a Streaming stick 4k or and other streaming stick from Roku. The majority of people would write off ever buying any of your products after an experience like that. THESE ARE GIVING THE COMPANY A BAD NAME. Why have you not recalled and discontinued such a bad product is mind boggling. Instead it is front and center of the main website for your players.
I ended up spending nearly 3x as much than I intended on a Christmas gift to get them an ultra. So congratulations Roku, if your goal was to make a product so bad I would spend more you succeeded. Maybe that makes me an idiot for not buying one of your competitor products but I really like all of my Rokus and the others I have bought for others in the past. This experience has really let me down and will give me pause when recommending you devices in the future.
TLDR; Streaming Stick 4k are TRASH, Do not buy them.
