LCD TVs have a backlight that provides the illumination to see the image. This light is usually either from LEDs or fluorescent lamps. Unfortunately, these lamps can fail, although LEDs are far less likely to fail. Depending on the age of your TV, the fluorescent backlight may have failed. If it has, you might be able to faintly see the image on the screen if you look closely. If you can see the image, then it's almost a certainty the backlight failed.
Honestly, for a TV with your screen size, it's probably going to be less expensive to simply replace the TV instead of getting the backlight repaired. Fluorescent lamps aren't expensive, but the total repair shop charge will likely exceed the value of the TV.
