I have been using the simple remote with my LG TV. I received a new Roku Voice Remote as a gift. The quick start guide says to hold down the two top buttons in order to pair the device, but nothing happens. All suggestions appreciated.

Assuming it's a Roku TV, you need to pair a new remote from the Settings->Remotes and devices menu.  You'll need your simple remote to do it.  It's detailed here:

Thanks, but it is not a Roku TV. It is an LG

Then you're out luck, Roku Voice remotes only pair to Roku devices and Roku tv's. It can control non-Roku tv's by IR for power, volume, and mute.

Okay, so I have a Roku stick plugged into the LG TV...does that mean it will not work?

If you have a Roku device connected to your TV, you'll need to pair it to get everything working. For a Roku streaming stick, it's necessary to use a Roku voice remote, which you currently have.

Just follow the steps on How to set up and pair your Roku voice remote.
