I can turn the tv on/off, home button works, but there’s no vertical up and down to select……but it will go horizontal. The * doesn’t work including the preset select for Netflix, Hulu, etc. 

Also the volume doesn’t work. I’ve reset the tv….the controller (which doesn’t have voice command. I’ve tried other Roku controllers from my other tv’s which are from the Roku converter boxes and the don’t do anything. Can it be the TV which is a TCL.

You might want to try a new remote.  The remotes from the Roku players don't work with the TVs.  The cheapest option (other than maybe a cheap universal remote that supports Roku TVs) is the Roku remote for TVs:

Thank you for your quick response my friend. I bought a new controller at Walmart for $10.00 and problem solved!!
