I was in the middle of playing a game and my simple (non-voice) remote suddenly stopped working. I replaced the batteries and... nothing. Made sure my Roku Express software was the latest, followed the pairing instructions with the Roku Express (more than once) and even with another Roku box (Premiere) .... no joy. Even tried instructions for a voice remote (without a pairing button)... no joy. The only numbers on the remote are Model: RC-AL1R, SKU: 322600619 in the battery compartment and RC16F-T3-03 embossed on the inside of the battery cover. Is this remote from a bad batch?
Hi @LJGJ,
Thanks for reaching out to us here in the Roku Community and for making your post.
We have passed along your case to our Support team for further assistance. They will reach you from there.
Just get back here and let us know how things turn out.

The Simple Remote uses IR only. There is no pairing that can be done. The remote either works or it doesn't.
First, make certain you put the batteries in correctly. Some remotes have them switch direction, while others have them facing the same way. The case will show the correct orientation. Next, look at the end of the remote through a digital camera and see if you can see a flashing light when you press any button. The camera on your phone should work just fine for this test. If you see a light flashing, the remote is working. Make certain nothing is blocking your line of sight between the remote and your Roku. IR does not go around obstacles, and can be hindered by direct sunlight hitting the Roku.
If the testing shows the remote is working, and there's nothing blocking the remote from the Roku, then I'm sorry to say your Roku is likely suffering from a problem. And your Roku is simply not worth the expense of any attempt to repair.
