Remote screen frozen on screen even after unplugging the device

When I turn on my device, the TV screen continually shows three pictures, and nothing else can be accessed, even when rebooting/unplugging and reco necting the device. Each photo is encircled, and from left to right the pictures are all of the back of the remote with the battery case removed. One e has an arrow pointing to a right diode, the next has that diode lit and a :05 minute icon, and the last has the left diode lit. The roku/remotehelp page does not show how to trouble shoot past this. I have changed batteries but nothing works to get either diode to light up.

That screen is trying to tell you that you need to pair the remote.  Once paired, it shouldn't keep displaying, so there's something not quite right.  If you press and hold the button on the back of the remote or inside the battery compartment the light should start flashing after about 5 seconds.  Does that not happen?
