I understand that the labeled buttons (ie Apple TV and Netflix) are paid advertising for the companies. However, I have difficulty with motor control and keep hitting these buttons when picking up the remote. Not funny. Just had to shut off Apple TV 3 times, return to the show I was watching on Hulu and all I wanted to do was adjust the volume. Again, not funny. Voice control is not an option for me. Suggestions??
I don't believe you can reprogram those buttons.
If you don't use those apps, I would suggest uninstalling those apps on the Roku and see if that prevents those apps coming up when accidently pressed. I am not sure if they are programmed to add those apps or just start the app, but you can try that and see if that works.
Hope that helps.
No, those buttons cannot be reprogrammed, and there is no way to turn them off.
Pressing a button for a channel that is not installed will still exit what you are doing and put up a screen for the channel from which you can install it.
The buttons themselves are raised portions of a flexible rubber membrane that protrude through holes in the hard outer case. The tops that protrude could be carefully cut off with a razor blade and the openings covered over with tape.
Thank you for the suggestion. Sadly I actually use Netflix and occasionally Apple TV. But may have to rethink both.
If your Roku is:
.. then you could use an inexpensive infrared (IR) universal remote without those dedicated buttons that has codes for controlling Rokus.
Note that Roku TVs and separate Roku devices use different sets of IR commands. If yours is a Roku TV, be sure any universal remote you get explicitly says it can control a Roku TV.
