So I have a sounbar that has to use an Optical out from the TV.
This means that the Roku Remote that came with the Streaming Stick will not work.
I have used universal - LEARNING - remotes in the past that you point towards your device's remote, and program a button on the original to be a button on the learning remote. Has worked great in the past but now I keep seeing all these remotes that "will not work with streaming stick".
I do NOT want to use the Roku Remote to control Roku, the TV Power/Input, or Soundbar. I want a learning remote that I can "teach" the volume controls and mute to operate the Soundbar (those are all the features I need), turn the TV power on and off (though changing the input and channels would be a bonus) and control the Roku stick - navigate, select, play, etc.
And I can't afford a Logitech Harmony or whatever.
I looked at the All For One and SofaBaton remotes but it's not clear if they'll control the Roku Streaming Stick.
And if the Stick is simply not controllable by a universal remote, is there a Roku product I can upgrade too that has a programmable remote that will control my Vizio Sounbar directly (not through HDMI CEC etc because I don't have that option)?
If not, while I love the Roku layout so much better than Firestick, I'll just need to return it and get a new Firestick and hope that it's faster, despite the Amazon crapola onscreen...
Any Roku that is not a stick (eg: Express, Ultra) has an IR receiver for conventional IR remotes.
@slatham, the streaming stick can only be controlled by Roku voice remotes. There's no universal or learning remote that will work with it.
