Only the volume and power button works

Exact issue I am having. Remote all of a sudden stopped working.  Played the game of replacing batteries - no help. Tried a new remote - same issue. Downloaded the App which worked,  but at $6.99 A WEEK to change channels is ridiculous. Is that their scam?

@Drknowl, that is a scam, but it's not Roku's scam.  You didn't download the official Roku app:
