Remotes

I just got a new Express 4K and paired the old Roku 3 remote with headphone jack to it. The remote works fine. The Roku shows when I plug headphones and stops playing sound over the TV speaker.  But there's no sound on the headphones. 

Is this combination supposed to work?

I know there are other options but I would like to use wired headphones with my old remote.

Sorry but yes, older Roku models below the Premiere never worked with the headphone jacks on remotes. But the newer headphone remote like the voice pro 1st gen will work with express models.
