2nd Stick won't connect and remote doesn't work

Jump to solution

System info: The working Roku is plugged into a Denon 2600 DVR and works fine, but slow internet download speed 7M so can't watch football as it's too choppy. Fire stick 30ft away in the back porch speed is 30M and no problem with football. Tried to see if it's a brand issue so tried a 2nd Roku stick I have plugged into a Magnavox older TV with HDMI ports and the download speed is 38M. I took 2nd Roku to the Denon and plugged it into another HDMI port. Powers up and displays the Home screen, but shows Not Connected in the upper right corner and the remote doesn't work. Returned 2nd remote to original TV and all is good. The two Roku sticks were inches from each other, but only one works. What's up? Are Roku sticks locked to original device? The Fire stick worked fine in the same Denon port as the 2nd Roku was plugged into.

Actually I did use the remote for that stick. I found the problem to be the power cord. I guess that thing attached to the power cord for that model is required. I was using a standard phone mini for power and it doesn't work that way. I guess I could have read the instructions. I'm leaving the 2nd stick with the AVR because it connects better than the 3921x that was installed. Thanks for the reply.

To answer one of your questions:

Roku Streaming Sticks are controlled by WiFi connections directly between the remote and Roku.  Each remote must be paired with the Roku on which it is to be used.  Once paired the remote cannot control another Roku, unless re-paired to that Roku instead.

Yes, the Wi-Fi receiver for stick models is in the cord, so you can re-position it for better wi-fi reception. With "box" models, you just reposition the whole box if needed, but with stick models you're kind of stuck with wherever the HDMI port happens to be and the Wi-Fi may be bad back there.

I'm surprised it didn't produce a clearer error message about the receiver being missing.

Banned but back. Because why not?
