Hi @Aust,

Greetings from the Roku Community!

We're sorry to hear about the experience you've encountered with your Roku Smart Bulb that failed to update. We'd like to know more about how we can help. Can you provide the Log ID or a screenshot of the Log ID from the Roku Smart Home mobile app? In addition, can you please specify the exact steps you are taking to reproduce this issue so we can investigate further?

We look forward to hearing from you and looking closely into this issue.

All the best,

Chel

Re: Smart Bulb SE failed firmware update

Hello, Roku Smart Bulb Support.

Can you provide a step-by-step with screenshots of what to expect when upgrading.

I have noticed below:

1. WiFi needs to be on 2.4GHz. If on 5 GHz not going to work. So one extra step for those who know how to change that on their wi-fi router. Then disconnect from WiFi and connect back in to ensure it is showing 2.4 GHz.

2. Provide how long to expect the process to take? Should it be one bulb at a time? All of them at the same time? Do we need to relauch the app on phone? Do we need to restart the phone? Are we supposed to keep all the smart lights on when the upgrade is in progress? If on, are the smart lights expected to flicker? If yes to flicker, how many times and such details are needed.

3. My firewall is seeing Roku bulbs connecting to these domains and there are no blocks or issues:

s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com on TCP port 443
prod-upgrade-service.wyzeiot.com on TCP port 443
aws-iot.wyzeiot.com on TCP port 8883
api.wyzeiot.com on TCP port 443

4. It has been two days and hours of attempting to upgrade with troubleshooting all over. Not happening.

The product is no doubt great, but all this hassle is too much. Steps above have been my struggle and feedback to you. Upgrade should be one click and fast.

Please advise.

Thanks

Kai

Re: Smart Bulb SE failed firmware update

Okay, all bulbs have been upgraded in my network.

Took two days.

Seem like the "hack" way that works is:

1. wifi network on 2.4 GHz

2. keep the bulbs "off" from the app, but do not manually power them off.

3. Try all bulbs same time but try when the possibility of internet traffic is less congested in your area.

4. If no work, then one bulb at a time.

5. Bulbs seems to flicker randomly - can not tell the pattern.

BUT still, should NOT be this hard. Fix this Roku.

Hi @kaihu,

A warm welcome here in the Roku Community!

We understand you're having a problem with the Roku bulb since it was unable to update the firmware. We're happy to help you. Please try to restart your modem and router. If the problem still persists, turn off the bulb manually with the light switch for 5 seconds, then turn it back on.

Keep us posted on what you find out, and we will be happy to assist you further.

Best regards,
John
