Subtitles always appear on live TV

Jump to solution

When I'm watching "antenna" live TV on my Roku 50 inch smart TV, the closed captions continues to be set to "always on," even though I've already turned it off numerous times in the accessibility setting. Every time I watch my local live news channel, subtitles keep popping up on the screen. If I turned the closed captions off in the accessibility setting, why doesn't it stay off? This is getting frustrating, especially when you consider this is a brand new ROKU TV.

@shawmanfromny, there's only one setting.  There isn't a separate setting for OTA vs. streaming and like @makaiguy said, if you turn in on in some apps it turns it on globally.

@shawmanfromny

Hi there, sorry to hear you're having trouble with getting subtitles to off completely and not appearing while watching live TV on live TV.

If you don't mind could you walk me through the process you took to turn the subtitles off? Knowing this will be helping in helping get those subtitles to not appear while you're watching antenna live TV.

I can understanding how this can be frustrating though. Hopefully I'll be able to help you with this issue.

Let me know and we'll go from there.

Do you, or others in your household ever use Closed Captioning on this or other channels?

I've found that some channels, when you activate CC on them, will change the Roku's default CC settings.

My wife uses CC on Hulu and Netflix. Why would this affect the accessibility setting for live OTA channels? This never happens on my Samsung 70 inch smart TV.
