Same. Very frustrating to watch and get up every five minutes to have to turn off CC. Even the CC setting shows it’s off!! But it is not. I need to turn on the EN and then turn off again. EVERY FIVE MINUTES. FIX this
I was experiencing this and it was driving me mildly insane! I kept going to the menu....Settings...Accessibility...Closed captions....off. I would go back to the channel/app (didn't matter which one...they would all do it periodically, some of them constantly. I discovered there is another way to get to CC settings. Press the * button from your Roku remote. CC is the very first thing that pops up and it was set to "On constantly." I shut it off from the button and the problem is gone! Amen
I've tried everything:
1. From settings turned off - They turn back on
2. Used the * - They turn back on
3. Deleted and redownloaded apps - Still come on
4. Went into the apps themselves turned them off - Roku turns them back on
5. Reset the device - Turned back on
6. Used voice control and prompted the device to turn them off permanently - They come back on
I have the Roku Ultra 4K+ and the Roku Express 4K+, it does it on both. This is 100% a Roku issue has nothing to do with the apps
I have the same issue with two Roku Streaming Sticks + and one Roku TV set. As you stated, the issue started about one week ago and involves all channels I'm watching. Turning CC off in the configuration program keeps it off for the time of watching, however, when the TV is switched off and back on, the CC feature is again enabled. I can't imagine that this is an individual channel issue but rather a ROKU problem after some sort of software update. I surely would like to have this (new) problem fixed as it is kind of annoying

Roku has made it more than clear they have no intention of fixing this issue which has been a plague for so long.
Speaking of "so long" , although I have 5 Roku devices, I'm done with this company and the way they **bleep** on their customers. Next is an Amazon Firestick, then I pawn off the garbage Rokus to suckers who don't how awful this **bleep**hole company is.

Any idea why this issue only appeared approximately 1 to 2 weeks ago? I never had this problem ever prior..
They do something on their end that causes it, I guess they do silent updates that are poorly coded or something.
My roku stick literally just updated to version 14.0 and now I have the CC problem being reported in this thread when I turn the roku on regardless of what app I watch. It’s definitely a roku software problem. Please fix this as it’s already annoying me.
Roku has made it VERY clear that they don't give a rats ass about the customers. The problem is the main competition, Amazon, is just as bad. Walmart's ONN is still a ways away.
If anyone has an option that allows us to escape this **bleep**ty Roku environment, please advise. The demise of WDTV forced me to Roku where I feel like a VERY unwelcome guest.
I hate Roku more than the 2024 election.
