TV speakers playing simultaneously as wireless speakers

Jump to solution

I have used the Roku wireless speakers for years with no problem. Starting today, the TV speakers play simultaneously with the wireless speakers. I have tried doing factory reset on both the speakers and the television and nothing will fix the problem. You can control the volume of the wireless speakers, but the TV speakers continue playing loudly. When both are playing at the same time there is an echo. It is extremely annoying and I’ve tried every solution that Roku has offered and nothing seems to fix it. I’m guessing this was a software update gone bad but even doing the factory reset did not get it back to the way it was before. If they can’t fix this soon, I am going to lose my mind.

Hi, @nothanks12.

Welcome and thank you for posting here in the Roku Community!

We understand that you're experiencing issues with the sound of your wireless speaker and TV both working. No worries, we'd be happy to help.

To turn off your Roku TV's built-in speakers you may follow the instructions below:

  1. Press Home button on your Roku TV remote
  2. Scroll and select Settings
  3. Select Audio,
  4. Select Audio output
  5. Select Wireless speakers or Wireless soundbar
  6. There are two ways you can turn off your Roku wireless audio device
    1. Select TV speakers to enable the built-in TV speakers along with other audio outputs. Your wireless audio device will be disabled.
    2. Select ARC or Optical to enable only the audio outputs. Both your wireless audio device and your TV's built-in speakers will be disabled.

After you disable your Roku wireless speakers or Roku TV Wireless Soundbar, audio will return to the TV speakers and/or other audio outputs, depending on your selection. You can re-enable your wireless audio device by performing steps 1 through 4 above and then selecting AutoWireless Speakers, or Wireless Soundbar.

Furthermore, you may visit this support article on how to switch audio from your Roku wireless audio device to another sound system

Hope this helps!

Reynan

I finally got it to work by following the first part of the instructions and setting it to optical then I have to restart tv (because it won’t work unless I reset it) and repeat the steps and select wireless and it will work until I turn off tv then it reverts back to both speakers simultaneously. I have to repeat the entire process each time I want to watch tv. I have had multiple Roku TVs for years and I have two sets of wireless speakers and this is never been an issue until yesterday. I am not sure what happened but I am convinced it was the software update my TV downloaded yesterday morning. Please look into this and see if you need to provide a new update. This is so frustrating that if it cannot be fixed, I will probably go away from Roku when I buy future televisions.

My tv and wireless speakers are doing the exact same thing. The only solution that I’ve figured out was to just keep selecting TV Audio and Wireless Speakers back and forth over and over again. Eventually the TV Speakers won’t turn on when you select Wireless Speakers. It takes awhile but it does eventually work, at least for my speakers it does.

One time it also froze my tv and made it reset and when it turn back on. Only my wireless speakers were working like normal. Hope this helps!
