Re: New Roku Streambar - wired ethernet port?

Jump to solution

Expert review's states a usb adapter is available but no information again.

You’ll have to connect the Streambar to your Wi-Fi (for Ethernet connections you’ll need a USB adapter).

Re: New Roku Streambar - wired ethernet port?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the posts and inquiries.

When you are looking for a USB to Fast Ethernet adapter that is compatible with your Roku Streambar or Roku Smart Soundbar, use the following guidelines to narrow your search.
  • Speed: Look for an adapter that supports 10/100 Mbps speeds. Adapters that support 10/100/1000 Mbps speeds will not work.
  • Chipset: Find an adapter that has an AX8817X or SMSC95XX chipset. This information is typically available with the manufacturer specifications.
The third-party adapters below have been tested and verified with the USB port on your Roku Streambar or Roku Smart Soundbar.
Then, set your Soundbar to use the Wired network connection.
  1. Press the Home button on your Streambar or soundbar remote.
  2. Scroll up or down and select Settings.
  3. Select Network, followed by Set up connection.
  4. Select Wired.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,
Danny

I own two of the plugable usb to ethernet adapters which I purchased back 5/2017, connecting it to usb on my original Roku soundbar has no effect, going into network all I have to chose from is Wireless, Wired never shows up.

Thank you so much for this RokuDanny-R!  I just wish the Roku Streambar webpage had been more specific about the type of USB adapter required to use Ethernet.  The webpage just says "Wired Ethernet requires USB adaptor (sold separately)".  I bought a brand new 10/100/1000 Gigabit USB 3.0 adapter and it does not work.  I just ordered the two that have been tested and verified.  Fingers crossed.

Adding another reply to confirm that the Plugable USB 2.0 to Ethernet Fast 10/100 LAN Wired Network Adapter works.

I had a Ugreen adapter lying around that worked without any problems.  UGREEN Ethernet Adapter USB 2.0 to 10/100 Network

It's for my son's Nintendo Switch, so apparently I have to order another one. 🙂

After my Roku Soundbar received update 9.4, it now can be wired to the internet using the listed plugable usb to ethernet adapter. 🙂

If my router has a USB port, can I use a wired connection using only a USB cable?

This is the router I would be using:

No, if you want wired internet you'll have to use one of the ethernet ports on the router attach to one of usb to ethernet adapter listed in this thread.
