Guest Mode Loop Boot Loop After Upgrading to Roku OS 14

Jump to solution

We have a 67 room client using roku televisions in their units and a number of the television have started a repetitive loop of guest mode signing out, TV reboots, guest mode then automatically signs back in and tries to sign out again causing the reboot to happen again and keeps repeating until the television is factory reset. The factory reset is a temporary fix and the process will have to be done again when guest mode loop starts again. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Re: Guest Mode Loop Boot Loop After Upgrading to Roku OS 14

Jump to solution

Hi Community,

Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. We understand the inconvenience of your Roku device automatically exiting guest mode after the update.

To resolve this issue, we recommend performing a factory reset:

  1. Locate the Reset Button: Find the reset button on your Roku device, usually located on the back or bottom.
  2. Power On: Ensure your Roku TV is powered on.
  3. Press and Hold: Press and hold the reset button for exactly 10 seconds.
  4. Watch for Blinking Light: The light will blink rapidly during the reset process. Once it returns to a normal blinking rate, release the button.

If the issue persists after a factory reset, please provide the following information:

  • Device Details: Your Roku device model, serial number, device ID, and OS version (found in Settings > System > About).
  • Tracker ID: To obtain this, press the Home button 5 times, followed by the Back button 5 times while the issue occurs.
  • Troubleshooting Steps: List any troubleshooting steps you've already tried.

We'll mark this post as solved to increase visibility and help other users who may encounter the same issue.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We're committed to resolving this problem as soon as possible.

Re: Roku Guest Mode Reboot Loop

Jump to solution

I have about 250 Roku TVs between 2 properties, and they all are set to Guest Mode. We set the TVs up at one property about 1 year ago, and at the other property about 8 months ago. About 2 weeks ago, we're suddenly seeing the same issue pop up on multiple Roku TVs a day at both properties. After turning on the TV, it says "updating guest mode". then is says "restarting", then the TV restarts and it continues in this cycle.

I have been doing a factory reset for each TV and that seems to fix the issue, but just wondering if anyone might have insight on why this issue is happening suddenly with so many TVs across 2 properties?

Thank you.

Same issue here. Turning off guest mode seems to solve the restart issue. Since there is no way to disable automatic updates it seems that the factory reset will only fix until the tv updates

It seems there's a problem with a large number of TV's all over since the latest updates. They need to fix it or replace the TVs at no charge. My TV worked just fine until it started loop restarting. It's like it never actually resets or restarts

I have multiple TV's in guest mode for our short term rentals. They are all TCL Roku TVs but the loop is so quick that you cannot even go to Settings to find the information you are asking for! You enter the WiFi in recovery mode, it then "Updates" and immediately goes into a cycle of Signing Out, Restarting, Signing Out, Restarting, etc... over and over. You do not even have the ability to move around on the Home Screen, let alone view your settings. It happens in seconds.

I found that switching the guest mode off from your app or browser stops the reboot loop, and you can then set it back to guest mode.

@RokuRiamie-D I was finally able to view the details you requested by pressing the reset button with the power off. It brought me to the Recovery screen. I can select the language there and then it prompts me to connect and update now. It completes the update and goes back to the sign out screen. Here is the info that was present in the Recovery screen:

Version: EPC.02R01359A

Serial number: X0200071TX8C

Device id: S0MG63C1TXBC

Roku TV: H507X

onn.model: 100012590

When it booted back up and started doing the signing out loop I was able to press the home button 5 times and the back button 5 times. A screen with more details briefly came up but I couldn't get the info fast enough to get the Tracker ID before it started rebooting.
