Re: Auto Brightness Not Working when Powering On

Jump to solution

Echoing the posts above, experiencing the exact same issue with the latest software 14.1.4, build 7709, model 65R8BX hardware ID M302X.

Set TV brightness to Auto and Fast TV start to Off.

If TV was just fully restarted through System - Power - Restart, the auto brightness works as expected.

If TV is turned off/on with remote (not a full OS restart through the menu) - then the brightness on auto setting is ALWAYS same as Brighter, even in a pitch black room.

Auto brightness ONLY works as expected immediately after System - Power - Restart. Any remote off/on makes it be stuck on the same brightness as Brighter until the next full restart.

I’ve noticed when turning Fast TV Start to on, then auto brightness continues to work after a few “normal” off/on with the remote in the minutes after a full restart. But eventually, it gets stuck on Brighter equivalent this way too (like an hour or so later).

This bug is straightforward to reproduce if you follow the steps above. Please have the Roku software engineers fix it ASAP. I spent a lot of money on this TV and am surprised that a basic feature like auto brightness is this obviously broken.

Model: 75R8BX

SN: X031005EXJUY

Software version: 14.1

Yes TV brightness is set to auto when the issue occurs.

I have tried changing all relevant settings, the only thing that worked is restarting the TV. Upon restarting the auto brightness adjusts to the rooms current lighting but does NOT respond to further changes to the rooms lighting.

how would you like me to submit a video clip? The clip will just show the tv at full brightness.

issue occurs every time I use the tv without restarting it. Latest issue ID: UY-059-913.

I love Roku products. And have been a loyal customer for years. But if this can’t be fixed I’ll be switching to a different company for my TV and smart home needs.

Model: 65R8BX
Serial: X03100NLSG9X
Device: S125T43LSG9X
Software: 14.1.4 build 7709-H1
Tracker ID: 9X-060-637

Yes, TV is set to auto brightness

Troubleshooting steps are as stated in prior responses. System reboot seems to resolve the issue, that is until the next time the TV is turned off.

Not sure how to take a picture of the problem. The screen is on the brightest setting immediately upon turning on the TV and won’t adapt to the brightness of the surroundings. Should be pretty simple to replicate.

Add me to the list, experiencing the exact same issue with brightness set to auto on my Pro Series RokuTV.

Model: 55R8BX    Hardware ID: M301X
Serial: X03100VXCMPU (S124S43XCMPU)
Device: S124S43XCMPU
Software: 14.1.4  build 4.7709-H1
Tracker ID: PU-063-315

GC Version 13.0.16

Again, troubleshooting steps are as indicated in previous posts. System reboot also appears to resolve the issue temporarily until the next time the TV is turned off for some unknown hours. Please note that my Tracker ID was taken after doing a system reboot when the auto brightness was working. Will try to get a fresh Tracker ID next time the auto brightness issue occurs upon powering up.

@RokuJohnB  Are you a bot? You really sound like one by continuing to ask for a video. There’s nothing to show.

Turn the Roku Pro TV off and on with a remote and you will see it’s stuck on max brightness on the auto setting. In a dark room, it is absolutely searingly bright and painful to the eyes.

This is the most premium product you sell, and it’s really amateur that auto brightness has been broken for this long. We all paid top dollar for this TV and don’t expect such a fundamental flaw with it.

When will this be fixed?

Seems like this is something that is affecting several Roku Pro Series TV’s. It should be easy enough to replicate in the Roku testing labs. Asking for a video demonstrating the issue isn’t something that will show up too well in a video since cameras also auto adjust.

It happens after the Pro Series RokuTV’s are turned off in the standby mode for several hours. Doing a system restart resolves it until the TV is off again for several hours.

Just bought a 55 inch pro 2 days ago and have the exact same auto brightness issues. I contacted Roku by phone today and spent 30-40 minutes explaining the issue. The woman I spoke to seems to understand the problem and said she will talk with her team. Said she will call me back. I’m still waiting. It’s very frustrating because I upgraded from a TCL Roku tv that was approximately 7-8 years old and I absolutely love the Pro model. I highly recommend we all keep calling Roku. The number I called was 816-272-8106. I’ll keep you posted for any response from Roku.
