I signed up for a free 7-day trial of the weather app on streamtwc.com. Then I went to my Roku TV, downloaded the Weather Channel app, and signed in. Then I'm presented with my payment options. Which I already selected on the weather channel website. But Roku won't let me get past this screen without selecting the method that I will be charged after my free trial ends. Which again, I already gave to the weather channel website. I can't use the free trial I already signed up for, because Roku insists that it the free trial be through them...?
I've already cancelled the free trial through streamtwc.com, because obviously there is a problem. And I think it's on Roku's side.
Are you sure you chose “sign in” and not “sign up”? I think a lot of people get confused by that subtle distinction. Then again, it’s interesting that the description of the app in the channel store says: “Authenticate through your TV provider OR download the app today for a free 7-day trial!” It doesn’t mention connecting to a streaming account you already have. So, maybe they literally mean that those are your only two options.
By the way, keep in mind that like most apps on Roku, the Weather channel app is written by “Weather Group Television, LLC”, not Roku. So they should be able to help you get it connected.
My only two button choices upon opening the app are Start 7 Days Free Trial and Sign In.
I selected Sign In, entered my email address and password, and then I have to click the button to agree to the terms and conditions. Great.
After that, I'm taken to the Choose Your Plan screen, and all I can do is pick a monthly or yearly billing plan. And if I select one, I'm prompted to enter my Roku pin, and then the payment information. I don't want to be charged here too, since I already gave this to the streamtwc.com website. All I can do is enter payment information or go back to the last screen.
After the Sign In button didn't work, I picked Start 7 Days Free Trial just in case that was the right answer...? And it wasn't. All roads lead back to me picking a billing plan and entering payment information. Except I already did this on streamtwc.com.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
In case they are different....
Be user sure (typo fixed) you are trying to sign in with the email address and password you set up with The Weather Channel, not the ones for your Roku account.
Yes, I am using the email and password that I used when signing up for the free trial on streamtwc.com. And it accepts the username and password (like, it doesn't tell me it's wrong or show me any errors), and then takes me to the "select a plan" page.
When free preview time periods time out, they automatically enroll you in their paid version. It sounds like TWC has more than one plan and you have to select one of them ahead of time and provide a payment method. I'm surprised this wasn't part of your initial sign-up on their website when you opted for the trial.
Yes, that's what I'm saying. That's the problem for which this thread was created. I already selected the billing type I wanted (monthly) and entered my payment information to be used after the end of the free trial on streamtwc.com. But the Weather Channel app on my Roku TV isn't recognizing that fact. The app only directs me to the Roku free trial option and payment information. Which I don't want or need. Because I already have one from the website.
I am having same problem. Was working great until Yesterday . I was on anual streaming plan. Then would not let me sign in and kept giving me error message. When i go to re -register it says I already have a subscription and won't let me sign in. Can't find a customer service # for TWC anywhere/
Hi @DocB,
