I don’t know if you’ll see this; but I am experiencing the same issue. Carly was not understanding the issue…I’ll go ahead and factory reset. I’ve been searching for days to find a solution and I’m getting very frustrated. I’m a sad lonely human with very few pleasures in life and watching something at the end of the day to take my mind off things keeps me sane. If Roku won’t work I’ll have to switch to something else.
I hope this reaches you before you do a reset. I think a reset would be a royal pain.
Posted a fix a couple of months ago that worked for me, but I don’t see it online now. I have a Roku device and not a Roku TV, so I don’t know if this will work for a TV. Probably worth a try before a reset.
I called Roku, chatted with them and even asked online and found no help. In fact they seemed a bit brain dead and just repeated the same script which doesn’t work.
Download the Roku app for your phone and sign in. You’ll be able to see the app you added there and then you can remove it. That will allow you to add it again on your device. After doing that it finally showed up.
Good luck!
ProblemFixer… I love you! And thank you!
I read through this whole thing and there’s only two solutions. The first one no longer works because as RECENT posters in this thread stated it’s not an option in the settings to change the order of the Apps. I’m assuming that Roku removed this in the settings in the last couple of months since this post started 7 months ago and now I don’t see this option in my settings and recent posts say it’s not there. I guess that Carly is such a bot that it didn’t pick up on this or bother to research it at all? Roku please invest in better AI for your troubleshooting. It’s now 2025!
HOWEVER! The second option that does work is the one that ProblemFixer (Useername checks out) posted. Follow it to a “T” and it fixed my issue. My YouTube app is back on my Home Screen. It’s simply using a different device to remove the app on the Roku remotely. Then for some reason when I installed it the same way again, it worked this time just like ProblemFixer said.
Thank you so Much!
Thank you this solved my problem, I was able to follow your steps exactly. I my case and as you mentioned the high rated solution in this thread can't be followed because the steps do not appear anywhere on my device.
I am having this EXACT problem, but this thread is making it difficult to see the ACTUAL solution to the issue. I can search for and then OPEN APP, but there's no option to add it back to the Home App Screen. I have to search for YoutubeTV app every single time I want to enter the app. I see a lot of back and forth in this thread, but cannot find the solution. Please help.
I am having the same problem as the user you replied to. You ask the very question we both have, "How can you search for an app to install it and it not show on the home screen?" EXACTLY.
So, if I delete the YoutubeTV app, but then later decide to re-add it, but the system only allows for Search and then OPEN APP, why on earth would there be no space available to add the app back? If you subtract an app, and then without adding other apps you try to re-install it, then SPACE is NOT the issue. Does anyone here actually KNOW, or is it all just guess work?
EDIT: To fix this issue DO NOT DO A FACTORY RESET!!. Roku Support doesn't know what they're doing. "kvgrow" is absolutely correct (thank you, by the way). Simple solution. (1) Go to your mobile device and open up the Roku App (install if not already done). (2) Search for the app, in my case it was YoutubeTV, and then remove it from the mobile app. (3) Go back to your Roku device and search for the app in question. When you select it, it will not longer say "OPEN APP". It will instead say "ADD APP". It will then be back on your Home Page, but as the last app on the list. Click the Astericks (*) to MOVE APP wherever you like.
Not sure how Roku Support Chat, nor Roku Community Moderators, don't know this by now. This thread is 4 pages long over many many months. Thanks again, "kvgrow", you have more desire to understand the device than the people at Roku.
Well said mikeingalls22 ! You did a much better job explaining the process to fix the “can’t find my app after I installed it” problem. I don’t know why Roku support can’t figure it out yet. I think I waisted 2-3 hours with them until I finally had an epiphany and tried the Roku app on the phone. I’m glad it worked for you and I hope it helps many others.
Great job!
My fix wasn't really highly ranked or rated. My fix worked on a Roku TV and not a Roku box or player. At the time, I had no idea that the settings I mentioned were not accessible on other devices.
I'm glad your fix worked for you and some others. Kudos to you!
