Re: Because you watched can't be changed

Since the Roku staff continue to give the same copy/pasted replies to this 'Because you watched' problem that prevents parents from shielding their young children from basically pornographic suggestions that appear after an unsuspecting viewer watches a program with extremely mature content, and customers have been requesting this since last fall 2022 by these post dates...

Maybe its time for all concerned customers to drop an email to Roku Legal Dept concerning Roku's blatant failure to provide customers a way to prevent corrupting the morals of minors, because apparently collecting and selling customers viewing habits is more profitable? What other reason could there be for not allowing channel watch histories to be deleted?  To give us a 'better experience' as one moderator answered...Well what if you didn't even enjoy the program you just watched?

Legal contact info below copied/pasted directly from Roku's contact page

Of course a Roku support email address for a topic like this does not exist, not one that I could find anyway.

I think I'll contact my congressman as well about this.  There must be, or should be, some law that would prevent this streaming company from forced promotion of extremely mature, graphically sexual pornographic programming content - corrupting the morals of minors, and not providing a parent or guardian (the account holder) with a means of removing said content from the supposedly 'Family Friendly' Roku Channel homepage.

Might be an idea to get this topic out there on social media and maybe concerned parents can shame them into fixing this issue.

How long could it possibly take for a Roku computer programmer to write code to fix this?  A few hours to a day?  Have the Roku programmer guy call the programmer guy at N*flix or H*lu or pr*me since they figured out how to do it.  Why are they intentionally ignoring this problem?  Is there some hidden agenda behind this?

Re: Because you watched can't be changed

It isn’t an issue with the “because you watched” feature. Users should be able to completely clear off and delete from our histories shows or movies that the Roku channel uses for suggestions.

For instance, I watched a artsy movie with nudity. Now on my main Roku interface, there are advertisements for similar movies, even when not in the Roku app similar to the movie I watched. Even with the Roku app deleted from the TV. Roku needs to have the ability to purge that movie from the watched history as to not have my 9 year old see that advertisement the second the TV comes on.

it is quite simple. Fix it. Give the customers the option to remove titles completely from the user account. One place to delete it and it is removed from continue watching, because you watched, and the main app selection screen.

Still getting lewd suggestions from the Roku TV app on the main Roku Interface screen.

Re: Because you watched can't be changed

Again, it has nothing to do with the "Because you watched" part of the Roku TV app.  When I turn on my TV, there is an advertisement for Roku TV among other things that suggests movies or shows to watch based on other movies and shows to watch.  This routinely shows mature content.  Roku absolutely needs to allow users to remove from their history that drives this automatic advertisement shows and movies that they do not want in the data set that produces those advertisements.  Roku also needs to clear their entire history every time they delete the roku tv app.

So once again, Roku response does not get to the actual issue.  Inside the Roku TV application, you should be able to remove any and all things from your history, at any point, referenced across all devices linked to that account.  Every other application in the world has this feature.

Re: Because you watched can't be changed

It appears there's no actual humans monitoring this forum with the power or will to change bad Roku features.  Seems like they're "programmed" to only spew the corporate policy.  They must think their customers are stupid.

Re: Because you watched can't be changed

I too am suddenly experiencing this issue. Before this started appearing, I had my basic channel lineup, such as YouTube tv,paramount,Netflix, etc. Now suddenly, just above those, there is showing 3 different channels or sites( which changes periodically). Above those 3 items, it say” because you watched “ null” on the Roku channel. What the heck does that mean. When I went into the Roku channel and searched for “null”, it found nothing. When I click on any one of those 3items using the star button, the only options it allows are, “add to saved list” and “close”. Please help if possible! Thanks

Re: Because you watched can't be changed

@cagee, sorry, it's not possible to help.  Until Roku gives users the option to hide all the cruft they keep adding to the Home Scree (if they ever do), you'll have to put up with it.  You'll find many, many, many complaints here.  Hopefully Roku is listening, but I fear if they see any uptick in views/revenue whatsoever, they may be here to stay.
