Can't obtain a QR code to connect

Jump to solution

I have a new floodlight camera.  As I go through the installation process, I get to the "Ready to connect" prompt, enter the network SSID and password, and move to the next screen for the QR code to scan.  However, while the app does move to appropriate screen, the QR code does not display.

I already have several indoor cameras and two outdoor cameras, including another floodlight camera.  I had no issues with installing these other cameras or getting a QR code.

How can I get a QR code to display?

Is there a way to connect without a QR code?

Note that I recently had to replace my phone.  After installing the Roku Smart Home app on my new phone, I successfully connected to my account and saw all my existing devices.

Hi @pagefarmer,

Greetings from the Roku Community!

If the QR code for your Roku Floodlight Camera isn't showing up, ensure the camera is powered on, the lens is clean, and the entire QR code is visible to the phone's camera. Try adjusting the phone's distance and angle, and ensure the phone isn't on a VPN or using a 5GHz Wi-Fi network.

Please keep us posted on what you find out.

Excuse me, but this is not a solution and a clear blow off of what your customer asked, because I am currently dealing with the EXACT same issue after a camera reset. The ROKU SMART HOME APP itself IS NOT GENERATING QR CODES FOR THE SETUP OF INDOOR CAMERAS ANYMORE. How is this a solution when the issue is that Roku is NOT maintaining the setup servers for **bleep** THEY STILL SELL?! I bet the newest models work perfect huh? For how long? And really, dont try to give me the typical string of bull you just gave this person, I happen to have a background in Cisco networking, Linux networking and administration and Microsoft administration. Everything else on my network is working fine, everything has been rebooted numerous times. The APP FAILS TO CREATE QR CODES DURING THE SETUP PROCESS. MANY times now. Attempted from SEVERAL different devices. I just popped in when I seen the half a&&ed answer that was called a solution, and to let this person know they ain't the only ones with this issue. I have been seeing more and more of these as I myself have been searching for a solution to this issue. I have also been seeing more and more Roku Smart Home Camera products on marketplace...Wonder why?

I am also having this issue, and you did not provide a solution. There is no QR code to scan. There's just blank white space where it should be. After about 10 seconds a message at the bottom of the screen pops up saying Network Time out. I have tried several times and reset my internet and the camera and nothing is working.

I don't know if this will help, but I was able to get the app to generate QR codes again after some messing around. It appears to be a permissions issue with the app suddenly for some reason...Anyway, most of this is overkill. Force stop the app, in the app settings clear your user data and app cache, then uninstall the smart home app completely. Make sure your cam, mic, bluetooth and location are all enabled. Make sure your phone is on wifi and on the same wifi network you intend to connect your camera to during setup. Reinstall the app from the play store and log the app into your existing account. Any permissions the app asks for during setup, allow them all. After doing all this I was able to get "1" device to actually make QR codes again for cam setup on an existing account, but only after a full fresh app install.
