I thought Roku was free? Why do I have a monthly charge for $11.98

Jump to solution

I noticed I have a monthly charge of $11.98 from Roku.  On my bank statement it says "The Roku Channel".  However, I don't see a subscription on my account for Roku, and I thought it was free after purchasing the Roku device.  Can someone help me understand, please???

Hi @CindyL256,

We're grateful to have you here in the Roku Community!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We understand that you're having issues with the charge of the subscription, and we're here to help.

Please be advised that the Roku channel is free to access, but there are channels/programs in TRC (The Roku Channel) that need a subscription. Go to the Roku account on your computer or smartphone to check for your subscription. If prompted, sign in to your Roku account. Click on Manage your subscriptions. When the “My Subscriptions” page loads, you will find all your channel subscriptions billed by Roku, along with each subscription's terms, status, and renewal date. For more detailed information, you can visit our support article on how to manage or cancel a subscription.

We hope that's helpful. Happy Streaming!

All the best,
Bernie

Re: I thought Roku was free? Why do I have a monthly charge for $97.40

Roku Charges

I have a total of $97.40 charges for Roku channel through my checking bank from 12/2022 through 7/2024

I have purchased other channels and paid them separately.

Roku said because I used Roku to watch these other channels through Roku channel that was why I was charged for the Roku Channel.

No where have I seen these to be true

I believe my account has been fraudulent charged

What can I do.Also Roku closed my account with the account that was charged

Please advise

Thank You,

Gloria H.

See above for cancelling any subscriptions you have.  Note that you can watch subscriptions you already have via Roku, but you can also (just as easily) sign up for the same content AGAIN via Roku and pay twice.  (You could also sign up again via Android, via Apple, via Amazon, and who knows how many other payment platforms and pay for the same content over and over and over.)

By the way, you don’t really need to put a payment method on your Roku account, and you can remove your payment method whenever you like.  This makes it far harder to accidentally sign up for something.

Banned but back. Because why not?
