[Solved] Harmony Remote Issues After Update? Try This!

Hey everyone,

We've seen some posts about Harmony remotes acting up after the latest update. If you're having trouble, here's a fix that's worked for a lot of folks:

  1. Go to: Settings > System > Advanced System Settings
  2. Select: Control by mobile apps
  3. Change "Network Access" to "Enabled"

Give this a try – it should take care of the issue for most people.

Note: We'll mark this post as solved for visibility and as a reference for other users.

If you're still having problems after trying this, please search the Community for other threads about Harmony remotes, or start a new thread with the details of your issue.

Thanks!

  • I've got an LG G3 with Magic remote, and it used to control the Roku just fine.  LG recently did an update and it no longer works.  CEC is setup properly to Enable, and the Roku remote can turn off the TV and change volume, but the LG Magic Remote will not work.  Have the Roku 4K streaming stick.  Had this problem before and had to change the tv location from US to Canada.  Then Canada to US, then Worked Again.  This time, that trick didn't work.

    Any help?

  • Hi renojim - Confirmed that setting stayed at “Enabled”. I’ve even tried changing the setting to “Permissive”, but that didn’t help. I’ll try unplugging power for all devices.

This did not work for me. I tried both settings. My LG magic remote was working fine, then it stopped. I have a Roku on every TV in my house and for the other TVs, I am fine with using the Roku remote to work the TV, but the LG that we have in our living room has too much attached like a sound system to use the more simple Roku remote. Sadly, I may have to find other ways to access my subscribed channels and give up my Roku devices as I replace TVs in my house. It is a shame because I have been using Roku devices for years. Having to use two different remotes is stupid in this day and age.

  • I realize this is an older thread but figured I would add for others that on Jan 14, 2025 version 14.1 just hit my Roku 3 and the Control4 remote has stopped working.

might try factory reset… worried about what that could further screw up.

  • I know this thread is almost a year old however, I just recently had this happen at my own home.  I found that going into; settings, advanced system settings, control by mobile apps, network access- selecting enabled(which accepts all command on private network connections) fixed the issue for me.  It was on limited when I went there initially.  Switched to enabled and it worked instantly.

This worked!  Thanks, I did not do a factory reset either, just enabled control by remote apps as you suggested.

Not really a question but a solution.I figured out how to control my Roku stick with my LG magic remote.

Go into Settings, System, Advanced system settings, Control by mobile apps, Network access, Enable or Permissive options will both work.

      Hope this helps.

  • I have 7 Roku streaming sticks in my house, 4 of which are controlled by Logitech Harmony Hubs.  Two of the 4 have updated to 14.1.4:7708 on 12/13/24.  The 14.1.4:7708 update does not work with the Harmony Hubs, and will only work with the Roku remote.  The previous Roku software versions have worked fine.  All other devices controlled by these Harmony hubs work fine (HDTV, home theater, DVD, Bluetooth)

I’ve tried rebooting the harmony hubs, rebooting the Rokus, power cycle both, and controlling via the Harmony app on my iPhone.   None of the troubleshooting has worked.  Is there a solution for this?

Can someone please point me to the release notes for incremental updates for Roku devices?

I noticed last night, my Logitech Harmony Elite remote stopped working for the Roku.  This is the only device in that "activity" on the remote that is controlled via network as opposed to IR.  Anyway, when I noticed this, of course I did the typical reboot of everything with the same results.  After poking around and going through settings to allow control from local addresses on the Roku, it started working again as it always has.  At that time, I was curious as to why that would have changed (that's about as deep in the settings as you can get) and noticed that my Roku said that it was last updated just minutes before... so clearly some Roku update was applied and thus, the network control settings were overwritten or required to be changed with this new update, so it would work again.

I've been looking for update/patch release notes with no avail.  Can some one please point me in the right direction so I can look at the change log?  Thank you!
