are any roku devices working with wpa3 today?
Thank you for posting here in the Roku Community, @hytekjosh!
We appreciate you reaching out for support.
Wpa3 is only supported on Roku TVs bearing the "Roku Plus Series" 2023 product name.
If there's anything else we can be of assistance with, please don't hesitate to let us know. Hope this helps!
Best regards,
Carly
so Roku will not be bringing it to standalone devices such as the streaming stick?
Pure guess on my part...
The WiFi chips in most models don't support WPA3. If not, WPA3 cannot be added to those models via software update.
The newest chip (Realtek RTL8822BE) that was used in the Ultra 4800 is still 802.11 ac/a/b/g/n. (ac=wifi5, ax=wifi6, which supports WPA3). This chip, and the Realtek 1319SoC did at least add/support the Bluetooth features that now exist. (for direct connection).
I would not be surprised to see the next round of Roku devices (at least the Ultra model) contain AX support. That should translate into WPA3 support. But with Roku, who knows?
Rather than alert users into new developments being worked on, the Roku motto can be at times "You get what you get and you will get it when you get it."
If you don't want to wait for Roku. Then you can always buy an apple TV device, fire stick, or an android tv box. Those 3 companies released wireless 6 devices a long time ago.
