My roommate and I have 2 separate Roku devices. We had them each plugged in separate ports on the same tv. Recently he unplugged mine and stated his brother claims having them both plugged in will damage/melt the hdmi ports or the tv. Does having two separate devices plugged into two separate ports on the same tv cause damage?
Is his theory based on anything? Like is there a recall on the TV saying using “too many” HDMI ports at once causes it to melt? I’ve typically had my video ports maxed out since the 1980s and nothing has melted on any of my devices.
@MemphisZach My $.02 guy does not know what is talking about, Both my TV's have all HDMI ports plugged in and 4 port HDMI switches on each, since 2009, and nothing has happened.

Nonsense. TVs are designed for and expected to be used with multiple devices connected to the HDMI ports. There's no significant amount of electrical energy passing through an HDMI port, so melting really isn't likely. If a device failed for some reason and caused a problem on the HDMI port, it would do so regardless of any other device connected to the TV. Methinks someone is spending too much time on conspiracy web sites. 🙂
@MemphisZach I have all three HDMI ports on my 2012 LG TV used and nothing has melted. However I would note that unplugging your roomate's Roku has the potential to cause a melt down of the individual but no damage to the TV.
Oh good grief. No, it won't. Where do people come up with stuff like this? Still, it's nice that your room mate no longer has to share "Roku time."
