Number four when connecting to hotel and dorm connect never works. Where am I supposed to launch a browser and what browser? Where am I supposed to insert my name in the room number? Where am I supposed to get Wi-Fi from? If this doesn’t work never works if I connect it says it’s connected and doesn’t let me open my apps otherwise I’m not connected help me, please.
To help you understand how this works...
Many hotels, dorms, etc, are set up with a WiFi system that you connect to by logging in via a web page accessed by the web browser on a computer, tablet, or phone. When you have logged in with whatever information that web page requests, it establishes your internet connection for that device. Any additional devices must be logged in separately. The institution may place a limit on the number of devices you may connect.
But the Roku has no web browser, so how can you log it into such a system?
In order to log the Roku into the net's web page, Roku provides a Hotel and Dorm mode in which you still use your computer or mobile device, but you connect it to the net through the Roku using a WiFi Direct connection to the Roku. Your browser submits the login data like normal, but it goes through the Roku and thus establishes the Roku's net connection. Once the connection is established you should be able to use your Roku as you usually do.

I'm having the same issue with my daughter's dorm room. I activated the Roku at our house then gave it to her to set up in her dorm. She has to use the ethernet cable so it is a wired connection. She does the login steps on her mac laptop and she gets to the launch browser part and nothing happens. Is this an issue she needs to direct to her IT department at school? We were told the Roku worked in the dorm room as we purchased it in the city where her college is located.
Hi @BlakesMom,
Thanks for reaching out here in the Roku Community!
Please note that college campuses often have additional network security measures in place that block or prevent unauthorized devices from connecting to the network. We'd recommend contacting the campus IT department and inquiring further. They may ask for your Roku device's MAC address, which can be located in Settings > System > About.
Please keep us updated on how it goes.
All the best,
Chel
Yeah this problem has been around forever and I'm tired of waiting for it to be resolved. You're so busy being slick with making sure the Roku isn't used in lan only context, that you forgot that we paid money for this **bleep**. I will never buy another roku product.
Tomorrow I'll rip this **bleep** out and replace it with a small linux thin client with iptvinator and vlc. Thanks for ruining my evening
Have you looked at that article? It doesn’t explain any answers to OP’s questions.
This process doesn’t work, there’s no way to do it.
The article you linked literally says “follow the instructions on the screen.” When you open a new tab on your browser, where should you go to enter your name and room number?
