Device struggles to stay connected to internet. Help?

Jump to solution

My Roku premiere doesn’t seem to want to stay connected, we just turned off band width saver, could this help the problem or is the Roku toast? We have to reset the Roku after every time it disconnects.

Hello! @belotkru,

Thank you for posting in the Roku Community!

We appreciate you contacting us about your Roku Premiere having an issue connecting to your internet. We're pleased to assist.

  • Can your other devices connect to the network without any issues or latency?
  • Did we recently make any changes to your network or network provider?

Troubleshooting steps

  1. Power cycle the Roku device for 30 seconds
  2. Restart the router
  3. Perform a Network Connection Reset on your Roku device by navigating to Settings > Advance system settings > Network connection reset > Reset connection.
    • Note: Before doing make sure you know your WiFi credentials.
  4. After the network reset, your Roku device will restart, and you will need to return to the Settings menu to set up your wireless network again.

You can connect your streaming device to a mobile hotspot as a temporary workaround to ensure there is no issue with your device.

@belotkru-

I can only relate my personal experience.

When I first started with Rokus, over 10 years ago, I had a Western Digital 2.4 GHz router.  Western Digital got out of the router business years ago.  WiFi connectrions tended to be pretty flaky back then and short intermittent service interruptions didn't seem to bother my computer applications which only made intermittent connections with the net themselves. Rokus essentially need continuous net connections when streaming and my early Rokus didn't seem to handle short term WiFi interruptions very well.  I frequently had to restart my router and reestablish my Roku WiFi connection, several times a month.

Three or four years ago I replaced the old WD router with an Asus dual band (2.4 and 5.0 GHz bands) RT-AX3000 router.  Aside from significant speed increases, my WiFi connections were instantly rock solid, and I don't think I've had a Roku drop its WiFi connection since then.  Maybe my recent model Rokus are more stable, but my money is on the Asus router.
