Screen goes black for 2 seconds

Jump to solution

Roku Ultra (4800 series)

You know in different streaming channels when you stop on a title it might start up the trailer for the title in the background? Nice feature.

However in all the apps that do that the screen goes black for a second or two then returns and the trailer plays. When you scroll over to the next title the screen goes black, comes back on and allows you to scroll. The screen then goes black when you stop on another title to load that titles trailer.

Makes it difficult to scroll through movies. Paramount Plus is the worst of the lot but they all do it.

Any suggestions?

@TexasMarine-

Under "Settings > System > Advanced system Settings > Advanced display settings" some Roku devices have an "Auto-adjust display refresh rate" item.

If this is enabled, the Roku circuitry sends the signal output at the refresh rate (frame rate) used by the original source material, commonly 24 fps (frames per second), 25 fps, 30 fps, 50 fps, or 60 fps. Every time the source frame rate changes, the TV must adjust its display to accommodate the new frame rate, which on many sets results in a short blackout.

This can happen when starting/stopping new programs, and when going in/out of commercial breaks that have a different native frame rate than the programs they are inserted into.

If "Auto-adjust display refresh rate" is set OFF, the Roku converts everything to a frame rate of 60 fps and the TV doesn't have to adjust on the fly.

Hi @TexasMarine

Thank you for the post.

There are several reasons why your screen might go black for 2 seconds on your ROKU device. Some of the common reasons include:

  • HDMI cable: One of the most common reasons for black screen issues is a loose or faulty HDMI cable. Make sure that your HDMI cable is properly connected to your TV and ROKU device. Try unplugging and replugging the HDMI cable to ensure a proper connection.
  • TV settings: Your TV settings may also be the cause of the black screen issue. Check your TV settings to make sure that they are set up correctly. For example, check that your TV is set to the correct input source.
  • ROKU device: If your ROKU device is not functioning properly, it may cause black screen issues. Try resetting your ROKU device by unplugging it from the power source and plugging it back in after a few seconds.
  • Network issues: If your network is slow or experiencing issues, it may cause the ROKU to experience black screen issues. Try restarting your modem and router, and ensure that your ROKU is connected to a strong and stable network.
  • Software updates: Sometimes, software updates may cause issues with your ROKU device. Check for software updates on your ROKU device and make sure that it is up to date.

Let us know if there's any difference after.

Warm Regards,
Lianna

Yea I don’t have that speed thing on my Roku tv.  This is getting annoying. Not only does the screen go blank on a few channels but Netflix just keeps resetting.

Hi @Emil3572,

Thanks for posting.

May we know what you have done so far to resolve the issue? Have you tried the suggested troubleshooting steps by the other Roku moderators? What channels besides Netflix have this issue? Lastly, when did you start having this issue?

Please keep us updated.
