I have the exact same issue and have also tried all the same "fixes" with no luck. Come on, Roku - where's the fix???
I came to the forum for the same reason. I just found on their website that they no longer support Roku 4 Device (4400x)

I've been trying since this morning, Nov 17 2024, and it still will not load! Very frustrating.
I have the Roku Ultra and they are still supporting that one and I can't get the app to load. Something else is going wrong.
Quick temporary workaround:
Load PBS app on your mobile device i.e. iPad.
login to your PBS account.
Make sure the mobile device is on the same wi-fi net as your Roku device.
On the mobile device (in the PBS app) go to the program you want to watch.
There should be a Air Play or Cast icon displaying.
Click on it and select that you want Program XYZ on your mobile to go to your Roku device.
Note: I tried going from my Mobile to my TV but it didn’t work…kept stopping the streaming.

Mine shows the PBS screen for a few seconds then goes back to Roku home screen. I think it's time to ditch Roku and go with something else, anyone know about Google ONN? Or something else?? I've had it with this clown show.
Yesterday, I just purchased a new Roku 4K streaming stick. After adding the PBS app, I signed into PBS with my membership info and then successfully streamed a PBS Passport program. Tonight (Nov. 17), the PBS app won't launch. Every time I try, it just keeps taking me back the Home screen. We watch PBS more than any other streaming channel. If this problem isn't fixed quickly we are going to return this device and try a streaming device built by another supplier.
Yep. Annoying, isn't it? I have the exact same problem with Stick 4K model 3820R2 that just finally updated to OS 14 on 11/16. On 11/17, I tried to run the PBS app but it crashes out and goes to back to home screen.

I'm reporting that since this latest Roku OS upgrade, the PBS app is failing to load. It starts, displays the blue and white PBS screen, then switches to a black /gray blank screen without text, displays that less than 1 minute, then the app crashes out and goes back to the Roku home screen. These appear to be the latest Roku OS for this model, and also the latest available version of the PBS Roku channel. The 3820R2 4k Stick is my last Roku to update to some version of OS 14, this update happened on 11/16, and this Roku is the only one of 6 or 7 in my house that won't run the PBS channel after its OS 14 upgrade. I don't know to whom I should report this, but since Roku channels are not created by Roku, I am reporting it to both PBS and Roku .
I have tried clear cache, restart Roku, power off and restart both Roku and Tv, delete and reinstall the Roku PBS channel, tried this Stick on a different Tv, etc, etc. It just won't run PBS after this OS update. all other channels function normally.
I did a network connection reset in advanced system settings. Had to enter the network password again, but the pbs app is working now!
I think this must be a software problem within the app. Either a roku based issue or pbs issue. I suspect there must have been a software update 11/16/2024.
If this is the case, can Roku send an email to us when it is fixed?
My subscription to pbs channel app is up to date. Logging into pbs on my phone and computer work fine.
Have a new roku pro 55 inch.
